Proper Wine Temperature

27 August, 2010 (05:10) | Food | By: Katie May

The temperature proper for wines ranges from 55 degrees to 58 degrees Fahrenheit (13-15 degrees Celsius). 49 to 65 degrees Fahrenheit or 5 to 18 degrees Celsius may also be sufficient as long as the temperature is unvarying.

Essential in wine storage are the degree and speed of temperature. Slow changes of degrees between summer and winter won’t be a dilemma. Similar changes each day will result to quickly aged wines.

The most essential step to follow in keeping wines is to avoid temperature oscillation. A sticky build up will form when this rule isn’t followed. Eventually this may lead to the crumpling of the cork. It’s just like inserting the cork on and off daily. Small quantities of wine are then pushed to the end of the cork that makes way for air to leak in. Once air blends in with the wine oxidation starts that can lead to the wine’s damage.

The wine properly ages when it is stored at 55 to 58F. Fast ageing of wines are seen in higher temperatures while lower temperatures slow down its ageing. Unalterable damages will be perceived once the wine is stored above 82F.

When stored at 55F wines mature slowly and this aids in its solidity.

Each wine you purchase should be kept immediately in your cellar. It is essential to give the wine a little rest after buying it to recover from the hassle of traveling even when you are to open it shortly.

The wine you just bought should have undergone special handling before it is headed to the cellar.

A wine fan knows that heat destroys the quality of the wine but does everyone know how to do that in specific times? Someone purchases a wine but forgets it in his car one warm afternoon. You brought it to you cool cellar but it has already been warmed all afternoon. Very high temperatures can cause unlikely chemical reactions to the wine.

You Should Buy Green Products Online

12 July, 2010 (05:26) | Food | By: Valerie Harding

When it comes down to it, many people are taking a serious stand about the condition that the world is in. This is talking about the way the environment is, for one. Taking that very seriously, many have opted to ‘go green’ and try to make a bigger stand against some of the bad calls that hurt Mother Nature. The good thing is that there are plenty of places to buy green products online, and therefore plenty of places to save money and help the world.

When people are going green just about anything and everything, you really need to break down what are the best ways that people have been able to succeed in part. One of these ways is through ordering online. Through the following paragraphs you can get an accurate look at why this is a good call for you to make if you have the opportunity to do it.

If you were not entirely sure as to what green products were, than this is something that likely ought to be addressed first. With that being said, you can usually sum up green parts in one of two different ways. These are designed specifically with the environment in mind, though the way that they are considered to be green might actually vary.

One way that a product might be green is if it is biodegradable within the environment once it has been thrown out. This is revolutionary because this kind of engineering can really make a difference in the ever expanding landfills our country has to offer. Another way a product can be green is through using recycled materials instead of all new ones.

You will actually save in couple of different ways if you had ordered your green products online. The first of these would be through the saving and helping of the environment. But there are certainly other ways for you to be able to save as well.

Consider the fact that you are not going to have to drive your car to the store to purchase what you were going to purchase. If this were any distance at all, it could have some detrimental effects on the environment. Not to mention your entire purpose in shopping was buying green products, and therefore you are doubly helping the environment by not leaving in the car and buying a green product.

You really can both help yourself and help the environment by deciding that you want to buy green products online. While there might be other things to consider, you should realize that this is a considerable way for you to make a difference.

Coffee : Fun Facts & Trivia

30 March, 2010 (04:29) | Coffee | By: Mark Walters

For a bit of fun and light reading, I’ve put together a little list of coffee related facts for you…

A Cup Of Coffee A Day…: It’s commonly said than an apple a day keeps the doctor away, and you can say the same about coffee too. The antioxidants in it boost your immune system and it’s also been linked with lowering the risk of cancer.

Mood Enhancer: After drinking a cup of coffee, you instantly feel in a better mood, and for lots of people there’s a definite increase in their feelings of romance. It’s partly due to the actual the ingredients in the coffee, and partly due to the aroma and feelings of warmth and comfort that it invokes.

Ease Muscle Pain: Moderate doses of caffeine have been said to help reduce muscle pain after working out. Runners are known to drink coffee, but now weight lifters have a reason to drink up too.

Hot Commodity: Only oil is traded more often than coffee – pretty impressive, right? That’s testament to the fact that coffee is popular literally all over the world. People in Africa and Asia may drink their coffee differently to people in the US and Europe, but they love it just as much, and drink it just as often.

Decaffeinated – Really?: All coffee has caffeine in it, even decaf coffee. The truth is that it’s impossible for coffee producers to totally take out all traces of caffeine. Decaf coffee definitely contains less caffeine than regular coffee though – approximately 70-90% less.

Cheaper Can Be Better: More and more taste tests are proving that expensive coffee isn’t always the best coffee. In fact, in a recent taste test by a national US publication, the most popular coffee brand in the world (you can guess which one) was beaten by a much less “chic” brand in a blind taste test.

Cancer & Capricorn: Coffee is a tropical plant and grows between the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn. This belt produces nearly all of the coffee consumed in the world.

Weighing Green Mountain Coffee Pods Against Other Options

29 January, 2010 (09:22) | Coffee | By: Stacy Garnet

One of the more popular brands of coffee pods available, Green Mountain Coffee Pods aren’t really coffee pods at all. They are, in fact, K-Cups. This is to say they only work in Keurig’s K-Cup brewers. So, if you are looking for regular coffee pods, stop right there, because you won’t find any such offerings from Green Mountain. However, if you’re interested in a new brand of K-Cup to try in your Keurig brewer, than read on.

Green Mountain Coffee Is Quite Green

With a name like green mountain, you would think that the company was rather old and from Ireland or something. In reality, Green Mountain Coffee was founded in Vermont in 1981. This makes them very new to the coffee world, especially with older companies having been around since the mid 1800s. The company actually started as a tiny cafe in rural Waitsfield, Vermont, where they roasted and served coffee. It didn’t take long before local restaurants began clamoring to buy Green Mountain Coffee to serve in their own establishments.

What Makes Green Mountain Special?

Green Mountain Coffees managed to grow very quickly in an extremely competitive industry. How were they able to distinguish themselves? Well, there’s a myriad of reasons they’re different, but let’s focus on flavors and selections. Green Mountain Coffees does not try to compete with the big guys whose bread and butter is traditional and decaf type offerings. They do provide a French roast, a breakfast blend, and their “Our Blend”, that all of the coffee shops in Vermont were begging for at one point, but they also have a ton of unique offerings. At the time of this writing, Green Mountain Coffees produced more than 100 different coffees under a handful of labels.

Will Green Mountain Coffees Work In My Pod Coffee Maker?

Since Green Mountain Coffee makes only Keurig K-Cups, they’re not going to fit in the standard coffee pod brewer. Green Mountain likely won’t ever make a normal coffee pod, as you would find in the Home Cafe system, so the standard coffee pod machine will probably remain out of luck. This is because, a few years ago, Green Mountain Coffees actually bought Keurig. It’s quite likely that this is the whole reason that K-Cups have been such a hit, even though they’re different from normal pod coffee makers. If you’re really bent on making it work, or if you just enjoy making your own coffee pods, you could always purchase Green Mountain’s loose coffee and do it that way.

Other Green Mountain Products

Green Mountain does have products other than coffees, although only a few actually bear the Green Mountain Coffee label. Under the Celestial Seasonings label, they offer various teas, while under the Cafe Escapes label, there are a few different types of hot chocolate. None of these offerings are available as anything other than K-Cups, however.

So What, Exactly, Is A Coffee Pod Machine?

26 November, 2009 (13:37) | Coffee | By: Calleigh McCoy

If you want to make coffee using a coffee pod, then you will need to use a coffee pod machine. Although the idea is new, the pieces are not, and coffee pods are actually just a small filter wrapped around just the right amount of coffee to make one cup.

Why Should I Use A Coffee Pod Machine At Home?

Many professional types, who drink a lot of coffee, live a lone. For these folks, there is no need to make a big pot of coffee for a single cup. That wasteful and, if they like gourmet coffee, really expensive. For those working at home, this is even truer since they tend to brew coffee repeatedly during the day, at different times. After all, who likes stale coffee? Whole families can even benefit from a coffee pod machine in comparison to a regular coffee maker when multiple people drink coffee at various times. If someone makes coffee before their night shift, it certainly won’t be good for the one that gets the kids up for school.

Would A Coffee Pod Machine Make Sense In The Office?

Most everyone assumes that single cup coffee makers wouldn’t really be useful in an office. When you make coffee in the office, people smell it and want it, so why not make a big pot, right? This leads many to believe the only way to to make coffee efficiently for the office is to use a regular old coffee maker. This, however, is not always true. How about if everyone in the office does not drink coffee, or maybe even if some need decaf? A ton of coffee gets poured down the sink when someone wants or needs a fresh pot. Much, of course, will depend on the size of the office, but single cups using coffee pods could actually end up being a lot more efficient.

A Coffee Pod Machine Gives Provides Flavor Options

Coffee is not just coffee anymore. Most people have a favorite special type of coffee, and even though there is a pot full of the stuff sitting two cubicles over, you may see people going three floors up to use a machine to get a cup of what they really want, be it a cappuccino or a latte or whatever. Because of this, a coffee pod machine can save both a company and an individual valuable time.

Coffee Pod Machines Are Not Nearly As Expensive As You Might Think

Since they’re seen as a more gourmet option, coffee pod machines are generally thought of as expensive. That, however, is not really true. In general, a coffee pod machine costs about as much as a regular coffee maker and, in many cases, they pay for themselves in saving waste. Even if money is not saved, sometimes it’s worth paying a little more to have fresh coffee all the time.

A Travel Coffee Maker Is Very Convenient

21 November, 2009 (06:41) | Coffee | By: Markus Smith

A travel coffee maker is a great thing to have if you travel often and want to make sure that you have good coffee with you wherever you go. If you drink your coffee at restaurants, then you know how difficult it can be to find a restaurant with great tasting coffee. Travel-style coffee makers make it easy for you to brew your own coffee just the way you like it from any hotel room you may be staying.

You can find a portable coffee maker just about anywhere, but it can be at least a little more difficult to find one that is of food quality. There are hundreds of brands and styles on store shelves for you to choose from, but not every one of them is the right one for you — and some of the ones you find on store shelves are not all that travel-friendly at all. It’s important for things you take with you on vacation or business trips to make you feel at home, but it is also important that a little bit of travel will not break your coffee maker as well.

If you are looking for one that is truly portable, you need to find out that is light weight and has a simplistic design. You might find that these types of coffee makers actually look quite a bit different from the coffee machine you use at home. These models boil the water up into the filter, and often the water comes out of the side of the machine and pours out into your cup. This way the water is pushed up to flow into the filter and drip. They are made this way to make them much smaller than other styles of coffee maker, and they are very durable: their design makes them resistant to light damage, and there is no glass to shatter during transport.

Make sure that any travel coffee maker that you pick up has a warranty on it. They may be durable for their size, but they are not invincible. As with any other gadget or household appliance, having a warranty is extremely important in case anything happens to your coffee maker. A solid warranty also shows that a manufacturer is confident in their product and are willing to make it up to you in case something happens.

Overall, a travel coffee maker is great if you travel out of town at least once a month. There is no replacing a cup of quality coffee, especially if you brewed it yourself and didn’t have to go to a coffee shop to get it. If you want delicious coffee no matter where you are, these should be your first choice.

Is traveling all of the time making it difficult for you to frequently get quality coffee? If you are getting sick of being on the road and not having anywhere that serves a decent cup of coffee, you should consider purchasing a travel coffee maker to give you that perfect cup everytime.
