The Joy Of Collecting Recipes

5 March, 2010 (05:05) | Uncategorized | By: Adriana Noton

Recipes are used for making that special dish for the first time, enhancing a meal that you have made many times but now want to change, or for just adding to a marvelous collection of ideas for meals for the future.

A recipe can consist of only two ingredients or so many you cannot even fit them on your countertop. It can be as simple as simply stirring, or very complex, like dredging in flour, then dipping into a beaten egg, then covering with bread crumbs, quick-frying and then finally baking the port chop. Yes, for a simple port chop. But many times you will find that the more effort you put forth in preparing the meal, the better it tastes in the end.

Most cooks have several very important ingredients that are put in almost every dinner recipe they make. These may be onions and garlic. Or perhaps herbs like thyme and basil, or a combination of Italian seasonings. This same cook may also have ingredients in the cupboard that he or she bought for one special meal on an occasion, and it has been sitting in that cupboard ever since. This might be liquid smoke, or fenugreek.

Perhaps the greatest experiments with recipes are those from other countries. You can try something Greek, like moussaka, or Italian, like lasagna, or East Indian, like lamb korma, or Mexican, like carne asada tacos.

You will find that the main difference between the different ones of various countries is the spices they use. In Greece, they use a lot of cinnamon on their meat to sweeten it up. Italians like their tomato sauced spiced up with oregano, basil, and thyme, among other spices. In India, the use of turmeric, cumin and coriander go far. Mexicans use a lot of cayenne and chili powder. And the list goes on.

You will discover that the joy of collecting healthy recipes will easily take over your book shelves. You will have recipe books on fish, steak, potatoes, desserts, casserole dishes, meatless meals, poultry, crepes, Christmas, and wok cooking, to name a few. Then there are the recipe magazines that will overwhelm you. And do not forget about the recipes you cut out from the newspaper, because you know you are going to try them some day.

You can stumble on collections in thrift shops. These are from clubs that people were members of and received them monthly and put them in binders. Or you will run across other types of collections that resemble a set of encyclopedias. There are annual collection recipe books for the year. And you would not want to pas up some of those really old cook books. They usually have a couple of really great classic formulas that you thought you would never find. Then there is the kind of collection that can drive a cook crazy, when they put them all in the index box. The best thing about these 4×6 inch cards is that you do not have to mess with a book closing on you while cooking.

Yes, you can collect recipes your whole life, fill an entire room with recipes. But the best cooks in the world do not even use them.

Healthy food can be hard to find these days. Eggs are very healthy and nutritious for breakfasts, and are extremely easy to prepare, especially with these online healthy recipes.

The Tasty Treat Of Delicious Waffles

12 February, 2010 (08:37) | Recipes | By: Clement Rock

Any mother knows that on weekends their kids are going to want waffles or pancakes for breakfast. After the hustle and bustle of the week is over, it is nice to sit down with the family and have a good old breakfast. One can find many different variations of waffles that can be made. All will be gobbled up by your willing taste testers.

Waffles are made on waffle irons. The batter consists of eggs, flour, oil, milk, sugar and baking powder. A person can always add to this base mix. Some additions that could make them special are chocolate chips, coconut, chopped nuts, applesauce, pumpkin, blueberries, strawberries or even banana slices. Just add this right into the batter.

Once the batter is made, about a cup is poured onto the hot waffle iron. It is easy to find many different types of irons in the stores today. A regular iron will create a waffle about one inch thick and round. It will give the diner about four pieces of waffle.

The Belgium waffle iron is a favorite of many. It is thicker. The waffle will be approximately two inches thick. There is also a bigger waffle iron. This makes waffle squares that are about twelve inches by twelve inches. These waffles are a big square that can be pulled apart into four smaller squares. Most irons take almost five minutes to cook each one.

Traditionally waffles stuck to the irons. People would put butter on them to try to stop the sticking. The invention of Teflon was great as it created an iron in which the batter did not stick. The waffle easily pops out. There is no need to get frustrated with a messy waffle iron. Typically there is very little mess. The trick is to pour a little bit of batter on the hot iron and spread it over the iron with a spatula a little at a time.

Topping a waffle is always fun. Put on your thinking cap and get together some delicious toppings. Of course you may always put the maple syrup and butter on them. It is very good. However, for the thrill seekers, try topping the waffle with whipped topping and sprinkles, sliced fruit or even chocolate pieces. As for syrups, there are many in the stores to choose from. There are maple, sugar free, strawberry or blueberry syrups to try.

If you want to please and surprise your family with a weekend treat, try waffles. They could be made traditionally or very fancy. They are cheap to make and chances are all the supplies are in your pantry. Add some toppings and voila, a delicious breakfast.

An individual can find many different variations of waffles that can be made. All will be gobbled-up by your willing taste testers. Easy easy waffle recipes for waffle makers a single click away.

Breakfast is supposed to be the most important meal of the day and waffles are a common breakfast food. These can be made from scratch, can come from a box or they can be eaten at a diner or restaurant. When making them at home from scratch you will have a bit more flexibility and can change the waffle recipe a bit to meet your needs. With a common recipe, it is easy to make how the recipe says as well as try out a few things and see how they taste.

To start, you need some basic ingredients, most of which can be found in your pantry. You will need four ounces of all purpose flour and 4 ounces of whole wheat flour. You will need one tablespoon of sugar and two tablespoons of baking powder. You will need a pinch of salt, three eggs and one and a half cups of milk. Finally, you will need some vegetable oil and a waffle iron.

To make a waffle, there are only a few simple steps. This can be done by anyone, even children can help. Before you mix any ingredients, be sure to turn on the waffle iron. This will be heating up while you mix and will be ready to go once the batter is complete. Start by mixing all dry ingredients together in one bowl. These ingredients are both flours, the sugar, the baking powder and salt.

In a different bowl, mix all of the wet ingredients together. The wet ingredients would be the eggs, the milk and the oil. Mix and stir all of these together until the milk and eggs are blended together well. This may take a few minutes to get the right consistency.

Pour the bowl with the wet mixture into the bowl with the dry mixture. Mix these together until there are no lumps. Now the batter is set to go and ready to be cooked in the waffle iron. If you want to add any additional ingredients such as fruit, cinnamon or chocolate chips, now would be the time to do so. Mix again and then cook.

With the batter ready, pour a half cup of waffle batter into the waffle iron. Close the lid and let it sit for about a minute. Check on the iron every so often until the waffle is a golden brown. This is when the waffle is done and is ready to be eaten.

A Waffle Recipe For Everyone

28 January, 2010 (09:51) | Recipes | By: Ben Cook

I can only imagine that if you are reading through the contents of this article, that you are looking for an easy and delicious waffle recipe that you can make for yourself or for your family. Through the paragraphs that follow, I will give you a detailed approach to doing this, and you will be easily on your way to delicious waffles.

This recipe is something that you can prepare anytime, and there are not a lot of steps and ingredients that are necessary to prepare it either. If you were to search out recipes for waffles, you will find that several different sources have different ways of making these treats, but I have complied what I use and consider to be the easiest way to make them.

First and foremost, you are going to need a waffle iron. There is really no getting around this, because it is very difficult to make waffles without one. You can prepare all of this, and without a waffle iron, you only have the ingredients to make pancakes in a skillet or on a griddle.

The first thing that everyone concerns themselves with is what the recipe requires. So let’s get right down to it. These are the ingredients that you are going to need: cup of warm water, a teaspoon of sugar, two teaspoons of dry yeast, two cups of warm milk, eight tablespoons of butter, three teaspoons of salt, two cups of flour, two large eggs and teaspoon of baking soda. That’s it.

The first thing that you will need to do is to combine the water and yeast. After ten minutes or so, you will need to then add the milk, butter, salt and flour to the mix and blend well. You will need to let this sit in the refrigerator overnight for it to be ready the following morning to make your waffles.

When you begin the preparation the following morning, you have to beat in the eggs and baking soda. There is a lot that you could do here to mix up your waffles through preparing them, and that might include adding fruits or flavoring. If you were going to do that, right here is where you would add it to the completed mixture. Then pour that mixture into an awaiting hot waffle iron and cook the waffle until it is a light golden brown.

So this is the best recipe that I found to prepare waffles. This waffle recipe is really easy to follow and incredibly tasty when its prepared. So hopefully you have as much success with this recipe, and find it as enjoyable as my family and I do.

Today, many people eat breakfast in the morning in order to complete their balance food nutrient throughout the day. The morning breakfast contains foods like waffles, eggs and toast. To find out more knowlegde on waffle recipes for waffle makers look on the net.

The Different Ways To Enjoy Waffles

25 January, 2010 (04:34) | Recipes | By: Ben Cook

If you are reading through this article, then you are probably wanting to learn a little more about waffles and how to keep the treat interesting for you and your family for years to come. So through these paragraphs, I hope to detail a few common ways to prepare them and how you can switch things up to always keep them interesting.

If you really stop to think about it, these breakfast additions have been around forever because they were literally constructed to be tasty. Think about it, and you will understand what I’m talking about. What other food do you know that has giant rivets specifically engineered to house whatever additional flavors you care to add?

But what makes them taste the best? Well, if you go to different areas of the world you will likely get different responses. Through the following paragraphs I intend to detail a few of the most popular ways to prepare these lovely treats so that you can keep these a part of your weekly dietary plan without them getting to be too much.

Generally speaking, perhaps one of the most popular ways to prepare a waffle is through the use of syrups. Out of different types and styles, there might not be much that could beat the maple syrup approach. In order to keep this from getting stale, you can switch it up with some flavored syrups designed to emulate popular fruit flavors.

If you were at a restaurant in the United States, then you might get a completely different waffle experience. Surely enough, you are going to have an option of syrups. What make it different, is that often these treats are served with a variety of fresh fruit on top. This makes them especially delicious, and also provides even more variety for you and your waffle eating.

The next preparation idea is not exactly so much a way to enjoy them, but a way to keep them in your life if you are always on the go. You might consider purchasing some ready made waffles that are designed to go into your toaster and be enjoyed in a matter of minutes. They are even infused with various flavors, so you can take them with you on the way to work if you like (or have to).

You aren’t likely to find another treat like waffles to kick off your morning. You see, there are so many ways to prepare them and enjoy them, that you can eat them all the time without fear of burning out on them.

Today, many people eat breakfast in the morning in order to complete their balance food nutrient throughout the day. The morning breakfast contains foods like waffles, bagels and bacon. To find out more information on waffle recipes for waffle makers look on the net.

Restaurant Menus Should Titillate The Taste Buds

6 January, 2010 (07:45) | Food | By: Adriana Noton

No matter how appealing the ambiance of a restaurant is, or how polite and helpful the servers are, you are there for one thing only. That is to enjoy the food. The first thing you are presented with is the menu. This is where you get your first impression of the food. Restaurant menus should therefore always look inviting and reflect the style of the restaurant.

Owners of any place where the public sits down to enjoy a meal should put some effort into designing a menu. From upper class fine-dining establishments to the diner down the street, it is essential, and respectful, to present an eye-catching menu. Reading a good menu should make you hungry! Make sure your menus are not caked in old food – this will put your patrons off immediately.

A family friendly restaurant should also include a separate kiddies menu. This will be a clear indication that the food is prepared and served to suit a child’s appetite and preferences. At the other end of the scale, consider elderly patrons when designing your menu. Make sure the text is easy to read. Don’t use elaborate fancy fonts in small print to describe each dish.

Use fonts that are in keeping with your restaurant’s theme. For example, if you own an upper class restaurant that serves exclusive cuisine, you may use curly, elaborate text. But a family restaurant should have a menu with text in trendy, bold and easily read fonts. Kids’ menus should be fun to look at.

The traditional way to list the items on a menu are the various groups, i. E. Appetizers, beverages, entrees, side orders and desserts. Many restaurants will group specific types of food on their menus. For example fish dishes, meat dishes, chicken dishes, seafood dishes, pasta dishes etc will all fall under separate listings.

If you serve meals all day long, it’s advisable to list breakfasts, lunches and dinners separately. Menus are more appealing if you use photographs or illustrations. If you have decided to include some photographs of your popular dishes on the menu, they must look delicious. There is an art to photographing food, so for the best results call in a professional.

Hold back on photos or illustrations if your restaurant is a classy establishment. The menu for a formal restaurant should have more wording and less pictures. A well written explanation of each dish is preferable. To further enhance the atmosphere of elegance, have a special section that gives the chef’s personal choices.

If you have some graphic design knowledge, you can create your own menu on your PC. But if not, rather get a professional designer to do the job. Whoever does the design should be imaginative and creative, but the main objective is to design a menu that looks appropriate for your type of restaurant.

The primary object of your menu is to make people want to enjoy your food. Whilst giving adequate details about your dishes, don’t have reams of boring explanations. Your prices should be in line with your competitors, but your quality should be better. If you want your patrons to become regulars, give them value for their money.

Save time and be hassle-free by using easy recipes for your daily meals. A healthy ingredient is eggs, and they are simple and easily accessible.

Eating Healthy – Easier Than You Think

20 December, 2009 (05:26) | Nutrition | By: Adriana Noton

As obesity climbs to epic proportions in this country, it’s not impossible to believe that our parents and grandparents, for the most part, ate much better than we do now. They had fresh food which more than likely was purchased every day or so, mainly because refrigerators were smaller and freezers were essentially nothing more than a place to make ice cubes and maybe store a steak and a package of bacon.

The worst thing we had to deal with back then was probably having too much butter on our potatoes and vegetables at dinner, and maybe some bacon was included in our breakfast. Other than that, school cafeterias weren’t even allowed to have vending machines, they couldn’t sell soda or coffee to even high schoolers, and even though lunches may have left a bit to be desired, they didn’t include pizza or tacos.

Fast forward to the 21st century and things are so different – not only in schools but in restaurants, home life and on the road. Our lives are hectic so instead of cooking we order take out. Rather than finding time for a healthy breakfast we grab a muffin or breakfast sandwich that has enough cholesterol to cause permanent damage to our livers and gallbladders.

Unfortunately, many people feel that they have nothing to worry about if they’re already thin. They fail to realize that even fat people can be “healthy” if their cholesterol levels are normal, and thin people can be at risk for clogged arteries and high cholesterol if they eat junk food.

Eating healthy means different things to different people. For one person, eating healthy simply means not drinking sugar laden soda, forsaking chips, and limiting all desserts to anything that is fat free. Someone else might take it more seriously and not only stay away from bad foods but actively add good foods to their diet. There is a big difference between not drinking cola and making sure you have 8 glasses of water each day.

Another person might have a salad every day for lunch, but that salad could be covered with regular blue cheese dressing. Her friend might have a chicken breast and a vegetable – which is much healthier in the long run, saving over 500 calories and about 14 grams of fat.

Too many thin individuals are convinced they have no worries until they are felled by chest pains or a stroke because of their cholesterol levels. They truly believe that their weekly binge drinking, nightly desserts, and fast food lunches have no effect as long as they still wear their “skinny jeans”.

Eating healthy is not a diet. It’s a lifestyle. One that doesn’t get adjusted to easily or quickly if you don’t really see the benefit or the need. Don’t wait till it’s too late because changing your ways.

Breakfasts have been claimed to be the most important meal of the day. By eating breakfast, it allows the brain to function better so one can focus more easily. For healthy recipes, visit us today!

Healthy Whole Wheat Pancakes Made Yummy

14 December, 2009 (05:37) | Nutrition | By: Jamis Hartley

We’ve gotten into the habit of eating a more healthy breakfast when we cook a full meal breakfast on the weekends. We do include sometimes some lean meats, but primarily we’re pancake people.

They are yummy when they are fresh off the pan and they can be enjoyed in so many ways. Pancakes are delicious for sure, but the problem for many of us is not the pancake itself but all the stuff we pile or pour all over them.

Eating healthy of course requires that our pancakes be whole wheat. But even whole wheat pancakes covered in sugary corn syrup are not healthy any more. With out the tasty additives you have a fairly dry non-yummy meal. Probably better still than plain toast, but still not that treat we look for in a pancake.

To avoid smothering your possibly healthy whole wheat pancake find a different way to add flavor. One idea is to add some of the syrup you love into the batter for that same great taste but without the quantity typically used when pouring it all over the top. Another great idea to get more flavor by using less is by using real butter. Real butter has more flavor and requires you to use less while still getting that flavor we love. Butter hasn’t been promoted so much over the years, but studies actually show that because of it’s flavor we typically use less of it than the artificial stuff that comes with the trans fats. I simply prefer natural substances over artificial in all cases.

Adding flavor to our healthy whole wheat pancakes doesn’t have to be a high calorie operation. There are lots of great ways to bring out flavor that will decrease our desire to pour sugary whatever all over the top of our steaming little pancake. The best place to start is with a yummy recipe that you can add to. By making the pancake taste better to begin with you will be able to enjoy them with a lot less calories after they are cooked.

If you really need topping, and some of us do, try a few teaspoons of fruit. Home made strawberry freezer jams have a much lower sugar content, are softer and more spreadable and taste super. Low sugar fruits such as peaches or pears are quite good and applesauce spread over pancakes is actually very good.

For a real treat, cook them a bit thinner, roll them up with fresh fruit inside them and top with a single dollop of whipped topping. Fresh fruit adds a festive look and taste to breakfast and no one is going to say no to healthy whole wheat pancakes and strawberries for breakfast.

Having a meal that will invite you or an entire family to sit down long enough to eat something healthy is not always an easy task. Now, with healthy whole wheat pancakes that can be made up so many different ways and taste good without all the sugar, you can do a little better. Take a morning out of your weekend and put your creative brain to work and come up with a way to enjoy healthy pancakes.

There are thousands of great recipe ideas for eating a healthy breakfast. Enjoying good healthy food is necessary in achieving a healthy lifestyle. Sitting at the table with your family with a yummy plate of whole wheat pancakes will provide health and happiness. Go to doctorgrandmas.com to get free recipe ideas for your healthy breakfast.
