Oatmeal is a wonderful food to have in the morning. If you feel like you would like to sweeten it a bit, try adding sliced up fruit and berries. Honey and cinnamon are also great additions if you are going to be having the traditional oats as opposed to the instant kinds that have become increasingly popular in recent times.

This breakfast is quick and easy to make and filled with fiber. This is a great way for you to start your day!

You may want to try swapping out your scrambled eggs for a bit of scrambled tofu. Once you have added the other ingredients such as tomatoes, onions, bell peppers or spinach, you may not even notice that the eggs are missing!

If you want to have a nice light breakfast, try making your own fruit salad! This is something that can be prepared ahead of time and kept in an air tight container placed inside of the cold refrigerator. When it comes to making your own fruit salad, the possibilities are endless!

You can include bananas, pineapple, cherries, strawberries, oranges, grapes, or any mixture of them! To make your fruit salad, simply choose your desired fruits, wash them, then slice thin and mix! Viola, you now have your own homemade fruit salad! This is great for a hot summer day. Sounds pretty refreshing, doesn’t it?

Yogurt and granola are also great choices when it comes to the first meal of the day. Check the sugar content of the granola before you make your purchase. You want the least amount of sugar that is available in the granola in order to avoid having a spike in your blood sugar after you finish the meal.

For those of you that are going to be grabbing breakfast on the go, consider investing in a few quality protein shakes. You can make your own shakes out of protein powder, or you may opt to purchase the shakes pre-made in cans. Protein shakes taste great and you can add fruit for a little extra zing if you would like!

The Different Types Of Eggs

14 April, 2010 (06:54) | Nutrition | By: Adriana Noton

There are so many different colors and sizes of eggs, although they are mostly the same shape. When we shop for them, the only thing we have to ask ourselves is what they will be used for, what recipes, and so on. In this way we can decide whether we will need the jumbo or medium size.

So, what came first, the chicken or the egg? Well, you need a chicken to get an egg, and you need a rooster to get more chickens. And so the mystery remains. Chicks are often available for sale at certain feed stores in spring. If you buy one, you will see that it is more than a pet.

There are a lot of different types of chickens, and they all lay different ones but similar. When you buy a chick, it needs to be kept warm and well fed, until it is time for them to start laying. They need a hot lamp, and often other chicks to keep them warmer. And they will go through a lot of feed at this stage, and as they grow.

Various blues, greens, and browns are produced by different species of chickens. At a chicken farm you can see these colors, and they look like the makings of an Easter basket.

They even taste a little different when you purchase the eggs from a farm. You can surely see the difference. They even look healthier to eat, with bright yellow yolks. And if the farmers raising the chickens intend to feed their families with these, there are no hormones or other medications given to the hens. They are free range and natural.

The egg of the goose, and duck, and ostrich are edible, as well. The ostrich ones are so huge that one would probably feed a pretty large family. And who knows how many cakes it could make! Those from quail are famous for their dainty presentation, and they are very popular around the holidays because of this.

They are a breakfast food. That is the general consensus. It is probably because there are so many breakfast recipes to make out of them. There is sunny side up, over easy, scrambled, poached, omelets, soft boiled and hard boiled, to name a few standard ones. But they are also great for brunch, lunch, and dinner as an entree, as well. You can roll them over other foods, or stuff them. They can be mixed in, like a casserole. They are great as a salad by itself, or within potato or macaroni salads. And the omelet itself has hundreds of variations and meats and vegetables that you can add to it for any occasion.

You cannot bake a cake without adding eggs to it to hold it together. If it does not need an egg, it is either in the batter already, or it is not a cake. And they are the main ingredient in so many other desserts, too. Without eggs, this world would be lacking a lot of other things, as well.

Eating fulfilling and nutritious breakfasts is part of a regular healthy lifestyle. In particular, eggs make for healthy recipes due to their many health benefits, including cognitive development, weight management, and eyesight protection.

Great Recipes For Every Dish

8 April, 2010 (06:12) | Nutrition | By: Adriana Noton

Boring meals can come alive with new recipes. Or you can try a completely different one, for a change. Or they can be tucked away in your collection for a special meal in the future.

Two or more ingredients makes a recipe. But some are so involved, you wish you never began cooking them. The ingredients go on forever. Some are as easy as stirring two ingredients together, and others require a lot of concentration, coordination, and even some imagination if you do not have the proper cookware.

A lot of serious cooks have certain ingredients that they always have on hand. It is actually the flavor of many dishes they prepare. It could be a certain kind of onion, or other vegetables, certain herbs or types of pepper, and a collection of signature spices for their dishes. Then there are always the few items that were purchased for a special meal and never used again. In fact, they will probably never be used again, but it is difficult to make the decision to throw them out because the specialty ingredients are usually a bit expensive.

When you are ready to be daring and try recipes from other countries, you may find that you enjoy the challenge. Or you could just try to prepare something Cajun you might find in New Orleans, or a Tex-Mex meal.

When it comes right down to it, the biggest difference in cooking meals from other regions is the spices they use. Greeks like to sweeten their meat with nutmeg an cinnamon, while East Indians use a lot of turmeric. And an Italian meal would not be Italian without basil, garlic and oregano.

Cook books can, of course, help out when it comes to cooking French foods, or Mexican, and so forth. And you can add to this collection with so many other kinds of cook books, as well. There are those for just appetizers, and those for entertaining, there are barbeque cook books, books on how to cook fish, or how to cook on the grill, and the list goes on. And as far as magazines, there is no shortage of magazines about cooking, either.

There are entire encyclopedia type collections of cook books. And some people join clubs and get them monthly, putting them into a binder they also received as a bonus. You can find these sometimes in thrift stores, and at garage sales. There is nothing wrong with buying a second hand or used cook book. The only problem is that the best healthy recipes have the dirtiest pages. Then there are people who collect certain ones and then put them on four by six inch index cards. Although this could drive a person crazy, at least they do not need to worry about a cook book closing by itself while you are trying to follow a recipe.

One can fill entire shelves, and yes, even entire rooms with recipes. You will eventually have one on every kind of meal for every occasion. It is funny, though, that the cooks with the most talent never use them.

Healthy food can be hard to find these days. Eggs are very healthy and nutritious for breakfasts, and are extremely easy to prepare, especially with these online healthy recipes.

Eggs Are Good For Us

18 March, 2010 (06:36) | Nutrition | By: Adriana Noton

When you go to the supermarket to buy eggs, you are faced with a variety of different sizes and colors. The shape, well, that is generally the same. You think of what you will make with them, as far as recipes, to decide whether to purchase medium sized or large ones. Maybe you will need the jumbo size.

You rarely think of what the farmer and the chicken went through to get them. Well, if you have ever seen the little chicks they sell at certain times in the spring, you can see what happens when they are fertilized. If you want them, all you have to do is to buy a chicken. If you want more chickens, you need to buy a rooster.

So the chicks are brought home to the farm, and they are set up in a very warm environment. The more the farmer buys, the warmer they will keep each other. A bright light needs to be on them all the time at this point, and they will eat a lot of chick feed. As they grow, they become the age to lay eggs. Different types of chickens lay different eggs.

If you have bought them from a home or farm that has all types of chickens that produce them, you will see from the variety that they sometimes look like they are for Easter. There are actually light blue and light green ones in the egg carton.

They will taste a bit different from a chicken farm than when you buy them at the store. The yolks are so bright, deep yellow. You can see the difference. You can see which is, of course, healthier. And the small farmers do not generally feed or inject their chickens with hormones, as they are not producing for grocery stores, and they are eating them themselves.

There are others that can be eaten also, not just that of the egg. Ostrich is also are edible and one will probably feed a family of six for breakfast. From ducks they are also acceptable. And if you ever get to try them from a quail, they are considered a delicacy to all. They do not taste too different, but the presentation is elegant, as they are tiny and speckled.

Eggs are generally thought of for breakfast, because there are so many ways to make them for breakfast. Scrambled, sunny side up, omelets, poached, hard boiled, soft boiled, and over easy are a few simple breakfast recipes. But they can be eaten at any meal. They can be the entree, if they are rolled around something else, like ham and cheese, or they can have a Mexican flavor, such as huevos rancheros. The omelet themselves can be made in an endless number of ways to be the center of a lunch or dinner meal. And other people think of eggs as a brunch meal, as their breakfasts are usually simple, like coffee and toast. Around 10 a. M. Or so, it is time for brunch, and this is when they enjoy a nicely cooked egg.

They are also the one ingredient that often holds all of the others together. This is true for cakes and pies, and many other dessert items. They are often one of the main ingredients in a recipe, like custards and crepes. It is safe to say, without eggs, we would be missing some of the finer things in life.

Healthy food can be hard to find these days. Eggs are very healthy and nutritious for breakfasts, and are extremely easy to prepare, especially with these online easy recipes.

The Joy Of Collecting Recipes

5 March, 2010 (05:05) | Uncategorized | By: Adriana Noton

Recipes are used for making that special dish for the first time, enhancing a meal that you have made many times but now want to change, or for just adding to a marvelous collection of ideas for meals for the future.

A recipe can consist of only two ingredients or so many you cannot even fit them on your countertop. It can be as simple as simply stirring, or very complex, like dredging in flour, then dipping into a beaten egg, then covering with bread crumbs, quick-frying and then finally baking the port chop. Yes, for a simple port chop. But many times you will find that the more effort you put forth in preparing the meal, the better it tastes in the end.

Most cooks have several very important ingredients that are put in almost every dinner recipe they make. These may be onions and garlic. Or perhaps herbs like thyme and basil, or a combination of Italian seasonings. This same cook may also have ingredients in the cupboard that he or she bought for one special meal on an occasion, and it has been sitting in that cupboard ever since. This might be liquid smoke, or fenugreek.

Perhaps the greatest experiments with recipes are those from other countries. You can try something Greek, like moussaka, or Italian, like lasagna, or East Indian, like lamb korma, or Mexican, like carne asada tacos.

You will find that the main difference between the different ones of various countries is the spices they use. In Greece, they use a lot of cinnamon on their meat to sweeten it up. Italians like their tomato sauced spiced up with oregano, basil, and thyme, among other spices. In India, the use of turmeric, cumin and coriander go far. Mexicans use a lot of cayenne and chili powder. And the list goes on.

You will discover that the joy of collecting healthy recipes will easily take over your book shelves. You will have recipe books on fish, steak, potatoes, desserts, casserole dishes, meatless meals, poultry, crepes, Christmas, and wok cooking, to name a few. Then there are the recipe magazines that will overwhelm you. And do not forget about the recipes you cut out from the newspaper, because you know you are going to try them some day.

You can stumble on collections in thrift shops. These are from clubs that people were members of and received them monthly and put them in binders. Or you will run across other types of collections that resemble a set of encyclopedias. There are annual collection recipe books for the year. And you would not want to pas up some of those really old cook books. They usually have a couple of really great classic formulas that you thought you would never find. Then there is the kind of collection that can drive a cook crazy, when they put them all in the index box. The best thing about these 4×6 inch cards is that you do not have to mess with a book closing on you while cooking.

Yes, you can collect recipes your whole life, fill an entire room with recipes. But the best cooks in the world do not even use them.

Healthy food can be hard to find these days. Eggs are very healthy and nutritious for breakfasts, and are extremely easy to prepare, especially with these online healthy recipes.

A Waffle Recipe For Everyone

28 January, 2010 (09:51) | Recipes | By: Ben Cook

I can only imagine that if you are reading through the contents of this article, that you are looking for an easy and delicious waffle recipe that you can make for yourself or for your family. Through the paragraphs that follow, I will give you a detailed approach to doing this, and you will be easily on your way to delicious waffles.

This recipe is something that you can prepare anytime, and there are not a lot of steps and ingredients that are necessary to prepare it either. If you were to search out recipes for waffles, you will find that several different sources have different ways of making these treats, but I have complied what I use and consider to be the easiest way to make them.

First and foremost, you are going to need a waffle iron. There is really no getting around this, because it is very difficult to make waffles without one. You can prepare all of this, and without a waffle iron, you only have the ingredients to make pancakes in a skillet or on a griddle.

The first thing that everyone concerns themselves with is what the recipe requires. So let’s get right down to it. These are the ingredients that you are going to need: cup of warm water, a teaspoon of sugar, two teaspoons of dry yeast, two cups of warm milk, eight tablespoons of butter, three teaspoons of salt, two cups of flour, two large eggs and teaspoon of baking soda. That’s it.

The first thing that you will need to do is to combine the water and yeast. After ten minutes or so, you will need to then add the milk, butter, salt and flour to the mix and blend well. You will need to let this sit in the refrigerator overnight for it to be ready the following morning to make your waffles.

When you begin the preparation the following morning, you have to beat in the eggs and baking soda. There is a lot that you could do here to mix up your waffles through preparing them, and that might include adding fruits or flavoring.
