17 April, 2010 (06:54) | Coffee | By: Terry Godwind

When we see those two lines appearing that confirm we are definitely pregnant, there are many things that women give up immediately. One of the main ones, and sometimes the hardest, is caffeine. Our several cups in the morning are replaced with something like herbal tea.

There has been a great deal of research done into this in recent years, so although you Mom and Grandma may scoff at the idea and say that it did their kids no harm, it is always better to be safe than sorry. Drinking too much coffee or other caffeinated drinks has been directly linked to both premature labor and a low weight at birth.

Consume more that 300 mg a day and your baby could be at risk. Drink over the recommended amount during your first trimester and the risk of miscarriage is slightly raised.

As well as the above risks, there are many other reasons why you should cut down on, or cut out altogether, caffeine while pregnant. One of the main ones is that it provides no nutrition to your growing baby at all, and this is a time when good nutrition is value.

Yet another good reason for giving up caffeine is the fact that it is a stimulant. This means that it increases your heart rate and can also cause headaches and insomnia. Both if these can put unnecessary stress on your unborn child.

Caffeine is also a well known stimulant, so can cause headaches, insomnia and also cause your heart rate to rise significantly. These all put stress on your growing fetus.

Caffeine can cause heartburn, which is already a nasty side effect of pregnancy. So why make it even worse by continuing to ingest caffeine? So know you know that it is best for all concerned if you give up caffeine altogether; or at least cut down so that you are taking in no more than the recommended 300 milligrams per day.

Don’t think that you can still drink the same amount as normal if you change to decaffeinated coffee, as this still contains caffeine and you will go over your 300 mg. Play it safe and do without any altogether.

In addition to Caffeine, this author additionally regularly writes on Rancilio Silva espresso machines and commercial coffee machines.

Top Culinary Schools – Prepare You For An Awesome Occupation

31 March, 2010 (07:19) | Food | By: Frank Froggatt

I have always cherished to spend time within a kitchen cooking. Nothing relaxes me more than spending a couple hours inside the kitchen experimenting using a bunch of various ingredients to come up with a delectable dish to serve my friends and family. From appetizers to main courses and desserts, I’ve got a genuine flair for coming up with delicious twists on traditional fare. I say this not out of arrogance, but because all the people that I cook for inform me that I’d turn into a fantastic cook and that I would be wise to take a look at some of the top culinary schools in the nation for some real instruction. At last I do think I am ready to pursue my dreams and their suggestions and go for it.

Why did I at last make this choice? Well, the biggest factor is that the office job I’ve been performing at for the past 4 or 5 years is so utterly unsatisfying. It undeniably is not something that I wish to do for much longer so I’m sincerely in the mood for a job change.

An additional motive that I’m gonna apply to top culinary universities is that I actually have a bit of cash saved up and can afford to take time off work so as to dedicate 100 percent of my mind to my classes. Going to one of the top culinary schools within the nation is not going to be effortless by any stretch of the mind so I should understand before I go that I will be able to concentrate totally on the challenges ahead.

In any case, now that I’ve decided to make the leap , I must try to figure out which institution will be suitable for me. There are not any top culinary schools in my neighborhood, so this means that despite which one I decide to go to I am going to need to transfer which isn’t an easy matter to do. That means I have to do everything in my power to ensure that I choose the appropriate school from the beginning — if not, I will be in a tricky state of affairs.

In order to facilitate my investigation, I’ve invested in a number of publications which contain profiles of top culinary schools, and have moreover been double-checking some matters on the internet. From this information I’ve developed a list of things that I think I should be able to expect from the school that I want to go to (a good student to instructor ratio, affordability, reputation, career placement, and a variety of classes) and have been carefully sorting through it all so as to hit upon exactly what I’m looking for. I’m not even close to finished yet, but that’s ok. I need to take my time with such a serious decision as this one.

It is really thrilling to view everything that is accessible even though I still have a great deal of investigation to complete yet. The programs at some of these top culinary schools are genuinely incredible in my opinion and what I can learn from a lot of them can make a massive difference for me when I go off and apply for my initial job. I can’t bear to wait to get more details about these institutions so I can send off my application packages as soon as possible. If all goes as planned, within the next several months I shall be off and learning the talents which I need to develop into a successful gourmet chef.

If you would like more info on the best cooking school then you can get it for Free. I have discussed some of the best culinary schools in the US at my site http://pastrychefschools.net. Check it out now.

Advice Regarding Consuming Caffeine At Evening

22 March, 2010 (05:45) | Coffee | By: June Williams

Hands up who loves their caffeine boosts? Yep me too, I can’t imagine a day when I won’t consume my numerous cup of coffee to get me going in the morning and then sustain me throughout the day.

How many of us have spent long nights stuck in the office while we trawl our way through a particularly tough project? Too many of us to mention I’ll bet, and not many of us can say that those caffeine boosts haven’t helped us to get through it.

I find the evening the hardest part of the day to get through without my caffeine. Saying no as the end of a meal is particularly difficult.

Apparently, I have to fight my urge for caffeine if I want to sleep at night. The later in the day you drink caffeine, the later it’ll be before you can go to sleep, etc etc.

They reckon that it can take up to 10 hours for caffeine to leave your system, so you so the math. Whatever time you have your last caffeinated drink, add 10 hours on. This also depends on the how your body reacts after the withdrawal of the caffeine.

I don’ t know if you have ever notice, but those who take sugar experience what can only be described as a crash. The odd thing is that this crash might actually aid sleep.

Your best bet is to test yourself and how your body reacts. Take your last cup later each day and gauge the reaction and whether you can sleep or not.

Ensure that you do this gradually though; only by having that drink 30 minutes or an hour later per day. This makes sure that you get your cut off point without a sleepless night.

Make The Most Of Any Kitchen Space

13 March, 2010 (06:13) | Food | By: Isaac Raines

If you are one of those people who spend a lot of time cooking for your family, a well organized kitchen is essential. We have a few tips here that will make life easier for you, and your kitchen a far more attractive one.

We all have counter space, they are essential in any kitchen, there just never seems to be enough when we are cooking for a lot of people or are having a baking session. The best thing you can do if you have limited counter space is to keep it clean and clutter free.

So much valuable space is taken up with appliances and gadgets. You can get these to fit beneath the counters, so get these if you can. You’ll see plenty of space freed up instantly once you place them away from your counter tops.

Your drawer should always be properly organized and tidy do that you can just put your hand on whatever you need. Keep flatware and knives separate to avoid any possible injury.

Okay knives, we need good knives to cut and chop etc. I always recommend that you invest in a good set that are on a stand or in a block. They don’t take up much room and stay sharp and at hand.

When is a pan not a pan? When your food doesn’t cook evenly in it and you can’t get it clean! The choice of pots and pans available is staggering so ensure that you get the best ones for your usage.

Also make sure that you have enough pans to cook with, as there’s nothing worse than not having enough and end up doing something in the microwave oven.

Any gadget that cuts down on preparation time is ok by me. I am a professional cook and know how laborious food prepping can be. You want to get the actual cooking part as soon as possible.

Great Advice For Falling Asleep Easily

11 March, 2010 (08:31) | Food | By: Paul Green

We all know that feeling of being dog tired, but sleep just won’t come. It has the knock on effect of you being exhausted the next day and literally having to drag yourself from your bed. Here are a few things you can try to improve the situation.

We all have bedtime habits such as watching TV or surfing the bed, this makes your brain work hard as you are tired so it won’t switch off when you want it to.

You may have a favourite show you watch in bed, the thing is that because you enjoy it so much you will be concentrating hard on it. Your brain needs to be able to sleep so that you can.

Now this is a tip that students use when they need to study. Get yourself a non fiction book that is full of facts but has zero entertainment value. Your brain recognizes how boring this is and shuts itself down, enabling you to fall asleep.

Exercise is a good way of promoting a good night’s sleep. Really push yourself so both body and mind are exhausted. A good sleeping pattern should follow.

Resistance and cardio workouts are the best for this. Once the initial burst of energy has dissipated, your body will start and wind down until it just wants to go to sleep.

If your wear glasses or contacts, remove these before getting into bed, rather than once you are in it. There are a couple of reasons for doing this.

If you still have them on and force yourself to watch TV through tired eyes they will be harder to close. Your eyes will feel relaxed and more comfortable by taking them off beforehand.

We all know deep down that eating at night is bad for us, but it isn’t only the weight gain that’s a problem. Our brains are very clever and make associations. If you have got into the habit of eating at night, your brain will refuse to shut down until you have eaten as it will be thinking about what to have tonight. Cut out the snacks and sleep will come quicker.

Coffee Revealed In Terms Of Pros And Weaknesses

4 March, 2010 (16:20) | Coffee | By: Amelie Rogers

If you’re a regular coffee drinker, this question has probably crossed your mind at one point in time. If you’re a constant worrier like I am, then it may cross your mind just about every day.

A great many of the world’s population are coffee drinkers. The taste of coffee certainly grows on you over time but it has another big advantage, too. When we’re feeling exhausted and nothing else can get us going, caffeine will come up trumps and give our energy levels a huge lift.

A cup of coffee can also help us while we work. In studies, caffeine was shown to make people more alert, better able to concentrate and more efficient.

It’s clear, then, that coffee has a positive effect on the way the brain functions. However, there are differing opinions as to whether coffee is good for the body as a whole. Some say it’s harmless, whereas others are convinced it can’t be beneficial.

Some studies will show that coffee may in fact raise blood pressure levels over time. This, coupled with the fact that heart rates increase with caffeine consumption, worries many people.

Conversely, other research programs have indicated that only drinking large quantities of coffee very frequently would produce these effects. If you’re consuming an average of about one cup of coffee a day, then you have nothing to worry about.

Then, of course, we have the beneficial effects of the antioxidants in coffee. Studies have shown that they offer a line of defense against the development of diseases such as cancer. This is not hard to believe when we consider that coffee is natural. The same qualities are also to be found in red wine, another natural product.

Of course, any powerful stimulant should be handled carefully, especially as we grow older. We just have to be careful not to overdo things where coffee is concerned. As the saying goes, moderation in all things and all things in moderation!

Improved Raised Bed Gardening Soil Formula And More

26 December, 2009 (05:37) | Food | By: Michael Hayfield

Once your raised bed is installed from scratch or from a kit, it’ll be time to finally start the fun part of this ongoing home project: the actual raised bed gardening. It might be a little sparse where your bed is at the moment, there are a few things you can do to turn it into a living and breathing thing of beauty.

By watering carefully, using the right kind of soil, and watching out for disease and stopping weeds, you can keep your garden clean and fresh the entire season.

Watch The pH Levels Of Your Soil

There are various soil mixtures out there, but the one that I’ve found has worked the best is one quarter yard soil, with the rest being a combination of sand and compost. This unique mixture will give your flowers a great base from which to start growing. Check the pH levels in your soil too. If it’s high in alkaline, nothing is going to grow.

Keeping Weeds Down

Raised bed gardens typically get the better of weeds, but that’s not to say that no one ever experiences the occasional weed here and there. Put in some organic mulch and use whatever weed guarding stuff you have in the house. If this doesn’t get rid of your weed infestation, remove them by hand. It’s simple and not really time consuming. Throw some more mulch over the top and see what happens overnight. Keep in mind this is an ongoing fight, so there will be victories and there will be losses.

Water The Appropriate Amounts

Manual watering is the way to go, making sure to hit the areas where your plants are inserted into the soil rather than the surrounding areas. If you feel extravagant, pick up an easy irrigation system with a drip technology that will keep your plants happy. Overhead watering is dangerous, as your plants can easily remain wet for too long and end up succumbing to disease. Water your plants decently, but don’t hose them.

Easy Maintenance

The best part about raised bed gardening is that it doesn’t take a whole lot of maintenance to keep them looking nice. As long as you water your plants regularly and distribute organic matter and turn over the soil periodically, you should be fine.

If there are any signs of disease, simply empty your garden and put down new soil for your plants and you’re good to go. As long as it looks good and the veggies keep growing, you should be fine.

The low maintenance may be a strong factor in choosing raised bed gardening over other options, but let’s face it: raised bed gardens look beautiful and can add a set piece to your yard that will start the neighbors talking. For such a small investment, how can it not be worth it?

Raised bed gardening will provide a beautiful relaxing feel. Best of all? Ready made kits are cheap to buy and produce great results! Buy yourself raised bed gardening tools or purchase other essentials to give yourself a head start. Remember to only buy from trusted sellers for the finest products at reasonable prices.
