Make The Most Of Any Kitchen Space

13 March, 2010 (06:13) | Food | By: Lance Baker

If you are one of those people who spend a lot of time cooking for your family, a well organized kitchen is essential. We have a few tips here that will make life easier for you, and your kitchen a far more attractive one.

We all have counter space, they are essential in any kitchen, there just never seems to be enough when we are cooking for a lot of people or are having a baking session. The best thing you can do if you have limited counter space is to keep it clean and clutter free.

So much valuable space is taken up with appliances and gadgets. You can get these to fit beneath the counters, so get these if you can. You’ll see plenty of space freed up instantly once you place them away from your counter tops.

Your drawer should always be properly organized and tidy do that you can just put your hand on whatever you need. Keep flatware and knives separate to avoid any possible injury.

Okay knives, we need good knives to cut and chop etc. I always recommend that you invest in a good set that are on a stand or in a block. They don’t take up much room and stay sharp and at hand.

When is a pan not a pan? When your food doesn’t cook evenly in it and you can’t get it clean! The choice of pots and pans available is staggering so ensure that you get the best ones for your usage.

Also make sure that you have enough pans to cook with, as there’s nothing worse than not having enough and end up doing something in the microwave oven.

Any gadget that cuts down on preparation time is ok by me. I am a professional cook and know how laborious food prepping can be. You want to get the actual cooking part as soon as possible.

Swiss Cheese; Only The Fine Is Best

12 March, 2010 (05:26) | Recipes | By: Stefan George

Looking for the best cheese, then make sure you look for nothing but Swiss cheese. The quality should at least be “fine”. No doubt is would be expensive but good things come for a price and Swiss cheese is no just one of the best cheeses around.

Facts about the Swiss cheese

Here in the United States, we call any cheese with holes in it “swiss cheese”. In fact, the term “swiss cheese” has become a descriptive work of its own, meaning something where there are holes in it – like a “memory like swiss cheese.” Actually, swiss cheese is just a generic name for any type of holed cheese, It can be made in Canada, New Zealand, Australia, or the United States…in fact, at this time, the largest swiss cheese factory in the world is in Ohio. All cheeses with holes are trying to simulate the cheese made in Switzerland, known as Emmetal.

There are other types of holed cheese in Switzerland, such as Gruyre, but Emmetal is the most fine type of swiss cheese there is. Guyre is imitated a lot. The holes are much smaller, and much more evenly spaced in the cheese. It is also aged longer, often 10-12 months. It is made from a cow’s milk with a greater amount of fat, so it is a sweeter cheese. As a swiss cheese, it melts easily and can be used with almost any part of the menu – appetizer, entree, or dessert.

Baby swiss cheese can be fine, but as it is made in ways to comply with government regulations (regarding aging time and whether milk is pasteurized prior to making into cheese) this is difficult to assertain. The holes are much smaller due to the shorter aging time. Also, the flavor is sweeter and milder.

In the process of making this cheese, the bacteria involved make the holes. Bacteria consume byproducts of other bacteria and lactic acid and then also excrete some amount of carbon dioxide gas. Bubbles are developed through this carbon dioxide gas and holes are formed as this cheese gets solidified.

How can this process contribute in picking the best Swiss cheese?

A fine swiss cheese will have larger “eyes,” and a greater flavor. The stronger flavor is caused by the longer aging time and the higher temperature, and these also lead to larger holes in the swiss cheese.

It is extremely hard to come across the best Swiss cheese that isn’t sliced in the US. As cheese having holes often gets caught in the machinery used for slicing that can cost the company both money and time. Hence manufacturers of Swiss cheese in the US make Swiss cheese that is best on its package but lesser aged and flavor as compared to the imported Swiss cheese.

Make Tastier Food by Enhancing Your Cooking Skills

10 March, 2010 (08:14) | Cooking-Tips | By: Fara Thompson

If you are a relatively new cook, you can use this article to increase not only the quality but also the taste of the dishes that you make. There are quite a few tips that would help you in enhancing the quality of your cooking. It may seem impossible, but there could be some simple tips that would go a long way in helping your dishes taste much better. It is not always necessary to joining a cookery school to become a better cook. If you just learn to add to your style, it could help you get amazing results.

The first tip to start from is to make sure that you have a good knife in your kitchen. The better the knife, the easier and convenient it would be for you to cut the meat and vegetables. You should buy a reasonable knife and then maintain the sharpness for controlling your speed and quality of cutting in the kitchen.

Knowing what the best ingredients are important to have a good meal ready. You can use many kinds of imported as well as local spices to spruce up your dishes. You have to know how to differentiate between these to produce better dishes. It is better to go in for those which make your dishes the best. Things like crumbs which are homemade are also ideal for this purpose. The reason is that these provide a better result than stuff which is packaged.

Always go for the one which gives the best taste. You should also go for fresh homemade things like crumbs if possible. They would give you better results than the packaged ones.

Using toothpicks, knives and forks is also highly recommended. If you want to get the best flavor and the aroma and taste in your food, learn to mix it with your own hands.

Usage of sea or table salt is also materially important here. Using salt always gives the best results as it increases the taste of food much better than table salt. You should be careful to use the right amount of salt in food, and not be guided only by what the recipes states.

When you are sauteing the vegetables make sure that you do not put too many all at once. To get the best flavor you must be able to see the pan bottom. If you put too many vegetables together than the temperature would go down and your vegetables would not get the perfect brown. Always make your pan hot before putting the vegetables for cooking.

If you follow these steps, you are likely to get good results in terms of the kind of cooking that you do.

Easy Great Tasting Healthy Meals For Your Family Are Just A Crock Pot Away

5 March, 2010 (09:21) | Uncategorized | By: Emily Branklee

Although their designs have remained mostly the same, crock pots are not what they once were.

The comfort and satisfaction of a home cooked meal is something everyone delights in. But who can take the time to prepare a full meal these days? Not too many people that I know!

It is really hard to keep up with everyone’s schedule and keep enough for everyone to eat, especially when there are meals to prepare. Crock pots and slow cookers are still an easy way to make dinners and lunches for your family and friends. Today, they have many improvements that make them even easier than ever to use for saving you time and money.

Today’s health findings have shown that food should be cooked faster than it used to be in older crock pots. You don’t want to have food cooking for 6 to 8 hours at low temperatures anymore. Vegetables and meats keep their flavor better if cooked faster at a higher temperature.

Most crock pots come with programmable timers making sure that the roasts, stews or BBQ’s they are preparing are kept at a higher temperature for a shorter period of time. These timers can be set to allow for different cooking times depending on the food being cooked. This really adds to their convenience.

You can still use you old tried and true Rival crock pot, but there are many new models to choose from now. The newer programmable crock pots come in various sizes from very small, individual slow cookers to large roasters capable of cooking full size turkeys or roasts.

Using a crock pot can save you both time and money because:

- Crock pots save energy using less electricity than ovens and no gas at all unlike ranges.

- Crock pots don’t get hot, meaning less heat generated in your kitchen on hot summer days.

- You save valuable time and energy not having to cook before dinner.

- You save money because cheaper meat cuts are tenderized by the slow cooking.

- Flavors are enhanced because food cooks slowly in its own juices.

- Using a crock pot saves water due to the steam generated in cooking.

- Very little prep work, just cut up veggies, add spicing and meat, set and forget.

- Even after hours of cooking your meal will still remain moist.

- Only one pot to clean after the meal is over.

- Large families or big parties can be fed with only one large crock pot.

So if you want to have simple and quick alternative to the long and involved process of making the family dinner everyday, try the new generation slow cooker, the programmable crockpot. You can make all kinds of food in this versatile kitchen appliance quickly and easily. You save time and money making great tasting soups, stews, roasts, curries, chili, casseroles even deserts like bread puddings and custards. You are only limited by your imagination.

Go for it. The crock pot has come a long way.

When you searchall over the internet for the latest and greatest in a programmable crock pot or a slow cooker , be aware to know what to look for before you buy. You will be able to feed your family the best meals and save energy at the same time. There are many sourcesyou can find what you are searching for but be aware to read reviews and check out the best of the best at my website: http://www.programmablecrockpot.org

Got A Designer Kitchen. You Need A Designer Kettle

22 February, 2010 (08:25) | Food | By: Claire Velez

When choosing a kettle you may come across many different designs and colours. In terms of features there are those that are ecorfriendly. If you spend a lot of time in the kitchen you may want a novelty gadget kettle that is packed full of features. Packed full of features you don’t really need like mobile phones these days. After all, all you need a kettle to do is boild some water.

Kettles in the home are used for boiling water that you use for tea, coffee and also soup. We use them in different mugs and cups. There are some eco green kettles around that use little energy and boil just the right amount of water for you. An idea for a new model kettle would be that it has memory functions for how much water you use.

A good feature for the real lazy people would have the drink pour into a cup instead of you lifting it. Having this option can allow you to choose how much water you want or have it preset that it comes out automatically and stops automatically depending on the preset you have chosen.

Having user displays in kettles maybe ideal such as having the temperature. Many whistling kettles get damaged and need replacement whistles. Having a digital one with a speaker will mean it will work as long as it is powered.

You would need many different colours in the range to match with your designer kitchen. Although having panels that are customisable will be appealing.

Kettles can come in a variety of different shapes and sizes aswell as colours. You can get patterns that are matching with some of your other electrical items. There are some wacky kettles out their if you are into these things but most kettles are stainless steel which would go with most of your kitchen.

Most of the kettles discussed are crazy innovative kettle ideas. They may not be sensible but some people want to be different and express themselves. If you have a non sensible kitchen and it has design in mind then why not see if you can find a crazy kettle.

If crazy kettle ideas are not for you then why not try a sensible kettle such as the original Cast Iron Kettles. They are getting popular now with one of the popular ones being the Woodfield Cast Iron Kettle

How To Buy The Best Coffee Maker For Your Home

19 February, 2010 (07:36) | Coffee | By: Corey Martin

Many people don’t realize just how many different types of coffee makers there are today. The industry as a whole has come a long way over the traditional drip style machines that were popular twenty years ago. If you are looking for a new coffee maker you will need to educate yourself on the current styles and brands to narrow down the choices into the very best one.

As you look at today’s coffee makers you will find ones that can brew a single cup right on up to a full 12 cup pot. This gives you much more flexibility than the traditional drip machines that would always make the same sized pot every time. You no longer are locked into a coffeemaker like that if you only need one cup for the road each morning. And if espresso or cappuccino are your favorites then you can easily find a machine that brews those as well. With all of the choices today, how do you find the right model for your home?

Start With Your Budget

For the majority of people, the first thing to think about is how much money they have to spend on a new coffee maker. This will narrow down the available choices so you aren’t wasting your time researching a machine that you just cannot afford. Also factor into this how much coffee you will be drinking. If you only drink coffee once or twice per week then you shouldn’t spend a lot of money as you won’t recoup your investment. However, if you drink more than a cup every day then you should buy the best coffeemaker you can afford. Take extra time in this case to compare the different machines before you choose one.

One thing you will find out when you start researching is there are a handful of the most popular brands of coffee makers and some not so popular ones. However, you can find some really good machines from companies that don’t have as large a following and these might be the best deals going. Look at some online reviews to see how other consumers rate each machine. Most people are pretty honest when it comes to products they buy so you can learn quite a bit. Your larger shopping websites tend to encourage their customers to submit product reviews and ratings.

Next Consider The Basic Features On Each Coffee Maker

Are you an avid tea, hot chocolate, latte, or espresso drinker? If the answer is yes then you will need a coffee maker that brews a variety of drinks. What about the amount of coffee, do you like only one cup at a time? There are quite a few one cup brewers that use specialty pods. These premeasured packets are easy to use as you simply pop them in and press start. Cleanup is almost a thing of the past. Also consider the available counter space that you have. If you are tight on space then you will want a more compact machine with fewer bells and whistles.

It all boils down to taking the appropriate steps to find the best coffee maker for the money. Since everyone has different needs this is something that only you can do. Each machine will fill a different niche so you should first learn what it is that you need out of it, then you can start to compare machines in that category. The end result will be the right coffeemaker for your home, and one that will get plenty of use each week.

Preparing Healthy Allergy Free Recipes For The Discriminating Eater

17 February, 2010 (10:04) | Food | By: Chris Channing

Amongst some of the worst allergens in food products today, are soy, wheat, dairy, and nuts. Soy is wonderfully good for you, but like the others, they are often added to too many foods. This can cause an allergy to spike at any time, or perhaps you were born with it. A yummy allergy free recipe or two can help you find foods that won’t cause a reaction or sickness.

One of the easiest ways to get recipes is to buy a cookbook. They are usually full of alternative rice breads for those with gluten allergies, and vegan cookbooks are soy and dairy free. Unfortunately, not everything can be made without an allergen, so you have to be careful and a little creative when preparing meals. This should actually be fun, once you learn how to balance measurements and what tools to use.

After cookbooks, the Internet is truly your best cooking buddy. There are likely thousands upon thousands of recipes lurking out there waiting to be prepared. On the Internet you will find plenty of other people that share your same allergy worries and know how to prepare delicious recipes that are healthy and filling.

It never hurts to ask around for good recipes. Obviously depending on what you are allergic to, you will need a specific recipe. For example, it’s easy to make wheat free bread. Rice bread generally contains whole grain rice flour and a few other ingredients. The result is a very tasty yet non-allergic reaction inducing. What could be tastier?

One thing that people can learn is allergy free cooking requires developing a taste for not-so-desirable things, and spending a little extra on high quality foods. Not everything will taste good to you right away, especially if it deviates away from your usual fast food burger and fries. It takes a lot of trial and error to develop an allergy-free meal plan to suit your tastes.

If you are on a budget, finding cheap recipes shouldn’t be a problem. The people that develop these recipes understand how difficult it is to budget your grocery bill and eat without worry. That’s why many recipes will utilize the power of fresh ingredients that you can buy in bulk for next to nothing. Rice flour, for example, can be purchased for only $2 a pound. Sometimes preparing everything by hand is significantly cheaper than buying it already made.

Closing Comments

Allergy free recipes aren’t always too easy to get your hands on. It requires patience and looking around wherever you can to talk to others about delicious meals that will please even the pickiest eaters out there! In the end, you are healthier, happier, and fuller.

Your One Stop Shop for Your Dinner Set Reviews

16 February, 2010 (10:46) | Food | By: Diana Richards

For decades, dinner time in the USA meant one thing. Sitting around a kitchen table with your family (and perhaps a few friends), and enjoying a tasty meal together. Eating off a nice table, dinner set complete with a plate, fork, knife, spoon, glass(s), napkins, and a centerpiece, was a nightly ritual. Although it is a far rarer event these days, it’s still a great way to enjoy some great conversation, and a nice way to welcome in the evening hours.

In this article we will be exploring the world of a major aspect of these family dinners, the dinner set. We will be providing a bit of history, and time permitting, go into some of the finer sets available, and where you might be able to obtain them.

Civilizations of the ancient world were often identified by the pottery that they created. Archaeologists would often find these items buried in the various sites that they would be combing through. It’s interesting to note that people often valued these items so much that they went so far as to be buried with them.

Sometimes people will refer to dinnerware as “China”. Ever wonder why? It’s because years ago dinnerware was made from porcelain, and porcelain making was invented by the Chinese over 1000 years ago. Logical answer, eh? Probably invented by the Tang Dynasty, but the emperors of the Song Dynasty seem to be taking most of the credit for it. Half way through the Song Dynasty, around 1100 AD, the process of porcelain making was being circulated throughout the East. By the time the 1400’s AD had rolled around, this knowledge had made its way to Europe.

Importing fine dinnerware from China was very expensive. As a result, only those who were rich could afford to own it. No worries…a solution was on the way. The Europeans started to create their own “China” factories. Modifying the process a bit (they incorporated a different mixture of clays, etc.), it resulted in a softer China, one that had a duller tone than the similar products that were being imported from China. Around the year 1700 another form of China was starting to emerge onto the scene. It was called “Bone China”, and it was made from a mixture of both bone ash and porcelain clays.

A great deal of the collectable and valuable dinnerware that we have circulating today is made out of pottery, not porcelain. It is sometimes referred to as “earthenware”. These items were very popular during the 1950’s and 1960’s.

What’s the most widely used pottery today? Stoneware is the answer. If you look around it seems to be everywhere. Check out the stores, the restaurants, the hotels and various homes. It’s all around us. Stoneware is made by firing the item at a very high temperature until it’s completely solid, and can therefore hold liquids. The process to create Stoneware was developed in the same place as the process for creating porcelain…China, about 3500 years ago. Some of the most collectable pieces of Stoneware in today’s world were created in the mid 1800’s in the Virginia and New England areas of the United States.

The dinner set has a very colorful history, don’t you think? We do have TOP PICKS, but no time or space in this article. Please visit our blog to learn more.

Baby Allergies – 3 Common Symptoms That Can Be Caused by Food

13 February, 2010 (08:34) | Food | By: Tess Rainey

This article will discuss baby allergies and 3 common symptoms that certain foods can cause. If you suffer from any of the below symptoms, you may not know that these symptoms might be caused by having a hidden food allergy.

1. Eczema: Itchy, dry skin isn’t usually associated with having a problem with a certain food. Yet this common skin problem may very well be happening due to a hidden food allergy to something like wheat or dairy.

You can discover whether or not eczema is being caused due to this simply by eliminating and reintroducing foods and keeping track of how you feel. It may be possible to cure eczema by then staying away from a particular food.

2. Asthma: Asthma can also be caused by eating a food that your system doesn’t tolerate well. It can be somewhat difficult to determine which food is causing the problem, but allergy testing or food elimination diets can help you figure it out so you know which foods to stay away from.

You might even be able to stop taking allergy medications and/or stop using an inhaler by removing the food that is causing the asthma in the first place. Discuss this with your doctor before you do so.

3. Sinusitis: Suffering from a stuffy nose isn’t usually connected to an allergy to a food like dairy. Usually allergens outside of the body are the reasons people think they are suffering, but the truth is a hidden food allergy can cause the same symptoms. Remove a food that is causing your problems and your symptoms will usually clear up within a few days or weeks of eliminating that food.

This article discussed baby allergies and 3 common symptoms that can be caused by food. Eczema, asthma and even sinusitis can be directly linked to problems with a particular food or foods. Even headaches can be caused by having an allergy to a certain food like wheat, dairy and more. Hidden food allergies are actually very common, so if your baby is suffering from any of the above symptoms, it might be happening due to an allergy to something in their diet.

Organic Foodstuff And Hair Loss Input

9 February, 2010 (07:28) | Food | By: Domenic Bray

In the recent past researchers have found that the food we eat will have a big impact on hair loss and hair re-growth. As of late organic foods not only taste better but have a lot higher nutrient content. You know that is what you want if you are trying to stop your hair loss.

Numerous people are becoming more and more worried about consuming a diet that is healthier and purer and in the mission they are buying more organic food and organic products. Organic products are grown without the use of chemical fertilizers, man-made pesticides or genetically engineered ingredients.

As for the ecosystem, organic farming helps keep the air, soil, and water untainted and natural by not using synthetic pesticides or chemical fertilizers. Green and organic are both becoming accepted concepts in this era and age.

The way that foods and agricultural products are grown and processed is what determines if it is organic or not. A farming system that maintains and replenishes the soil organically and without the use of toxic fertilizers, pesticides or herbicides is considered to be organic. Organic farming is based upon working within the natural constraints of the natural environment without the addition of anything synthetic or chemical.

By eating organic foods you will limit yourself from exposure to unsafe chemicals, herbicides, fungicides and insecticides. You will also be limiting your ingestion of antibiotics and growth hormones. Any genetically modified foods are also prohibited from being called organic or from carrying the “organic” label.

On October 21, 2002, the U.S.D.A. put into effect the nationwide organic standards ensuring uniformity for all organic products marketed in the United States. Along with the new standards, there is now exact classification rules to help the end user know the literal organic content of the food they see on the shelf. The “USDA Organic” seal helps you find products that contain at least 95 percent certified organic ingredients.

The four category categories that you should look for when you are purchasing organic product include:

1 100 percent Organic. The total contents of the product is certified to be organic. These products are permitted to show the USDA Organic seal on the label.

2 Organic. At least 95% of the product’s content is certified organic. These products may also show the seal but may contain some inconsequential ingredients that are not certified as organic.

3 Made with Organic ingredients. At least 70% of the contents of the products are certified organic. These goods may not use the USDA Organic label.

4 Products that contain less than 70% Organic contents can only classify the organic ingredients on the ingredient listing on the label.

Some grocery stores have gone through a meticulous test to be “certified Organic”. This requires broad research, planning and commitment to the organic process and the stores must offer proof of how the food is transported, stored and sold.

We can start the actions in order to not only stop hair loss but also to start the growth of new hair. For more information, go to my stopping hair loss website. A blog for hair loss in men and women.
