The Origins of the Slow Cooker
The origin of slow cooker is short and brief. Back in the beginning of the 1960s, the electric bean cooker was first made by the “West Bend Corporation”. This cooker was introduced as the Bean pot. Basically, it was a crock pot on a tray that heated up. Actually, the first true forerunner of slow cookers was the Beanery. The one responsible for developing it is the “Naxon Utilities Corporation”.
Naxon was purchased by Rival Industries that gave them the rights for the Beanery in the year 1970. In the world of slow cookers, Rival began its exploration. The company found that many types of foods cooked wonderfully with this same method. The first official Crock-Pot were brought out which was about 25,000 cookers and made its way to the public in 1971.
Another innovation in 1974 came with this product when the inside crock could be removed for cleaning. Individuals were also encouraged to save energy. Through the use of low-wattage Crock-pot, it was easy one.
Easy fixing meals with their slow cooker has introduced by Rival to career-oriented women. Cooking a meal while away at work was appealing to working women and the Rival very much knew it. Then by the middle of the 70s other companies jumped aboard making their versions. Most of them no longer are around though.
With its slow cooker, Rival stays the leader in the market today. They command a whopping 85 percent of the market. The assortments of different models offer a variety of sizes. These models are extremely useful and have proved it over the years.
Now they come with automatic controls and even timers to help them do their cooking more effectively. Many cookbooks have even been written chock full of meal recipes specifically for the cookers of today.
