Healthy Whole Wheat Pancakes Made Yummy

14 December, 2009 (05:37) | Nutrition | By: Jamis Hartley

We’ve gotten into the habit of eating a more healthy breakfast when we cook a full meal breakfast on the weekends. We do include sometimes some lean meats, but primarily we’re pancake people.

They are yummy when they are fresh off the pan and they can be enjoyed in so many ways. Pancakes are delicious for sure, but the problem for many of us is not the pancake itself but all the stuff we pile or pour all over them.

Eating healthy of course requires that our pancakes be whole wheat. But even whole wheat pancakes covered in sugary corn syrup are not healthy any more. With out the tasty additives you have a fairly dry non-yummy meal. Probably better still than plain toast, but still not that treat we look for in a pancake.

To avoid smothering your possibly healthy whole wheat pancake find a different way to add flavor. One idea is to add some of the syrup you love into the batter for that same great taste but without the quantity typically used when pouring it all over the top. Another great idea to get more flavor by using less is by using real butter. Real butter has more flavor and requires you to use less while still getting that flavor we love. Butter hasn’t been promoted so much over the years, but studies actually show that because of it’s flavor we typically use less of it than the artificial stuff that comes with the trans fats. I simply prefer natural substances over artificial in all cases.

Adding flavor to our healthy whole wheat pancakes doesn’t have to be a high calorie operation. There are lots of great ways to bring out flavor that will decrease our desire to pour sugary whatever all over the top of our steaming little pancake. The best place to start is with a yummy recipe that you can add to. By making the pancake taste better to begin with you will be able to enjoy them with a lot less calories after they are cooked.

If you really need topping, and some of us do, try a few teaspoons of fruit. Home made strawberry freezer jams have a much lower sugar content, are softer and more spreadable and taste super. Low sugar fruits such as peaches or pears are quite good and applesauce spread over pancakes is actually very good.

For a real treat, cook them a bit thinner, roll them up with fresh fruit inside them and top with a single dollop of whipped topping. Fresh fruit adds a festive look and taste to breakfast and no one is going to say no to healthy whole wheat pancakes and strawberries for breakfast.

Having a meal that will invite you or an entire family to sit down long enough to eat something healthy is not always an easy task. Now, with healthy whole wheat pancakes that can be made up so many different ways and taste good without all the sugar, you can do a little better. Take a morning out of your weekend and put your creative brain to work and come up with a way to enjoy healthy pancakes.

There are thousands of great recipe ideas for eating a healthy breakfast. Enjoying good healthy food is necessary in achieving a healthy lifestyle. Sitting at the table with your family with a yummy plate of whole wheat pancakes will provide health and happiness. Go to doctorgrandmas.com to get free recipe ideas for your healthy breakfast.

Using Fruit in a Pancake Recipe

18 April, 2009 (04:50) | Food | By: Asher T. Jones

by Asher T. Jones

Do you ever feel like eating cake for breakfast? Sometimes you just get the urge, right? You probably don’t often give in for fear of feeling guilty. You can get around that with pancakes because they are essentially cake for breakfast, but it’s allowed.

Pancakes are very delicious and not to hard to make. There are a few tricks to remember to make sure they come out right, but besides that, they are very easy to make and don’t require too much time.

For example, make sure you don’t beat the batter, just stir it until combined. If you beat it too much, you will end up with flat and tough pancakes. In other words, you will end up with a garbage full of faulty flatbread.

Let’s face it, pancakes aren’t especially exciting. If you make them a lot, they can get especially boring. What can you do to basic pancakes to make them tastier and more exciting?

One great idea is fruit. Fruit is great just plain for breakfast or added to just about any breakfast food short of eggs and bacon. You can’t go wrong adding fruit in some way to your pancakes.

Have you ever had blueberry pancakes? Putting fruit directly in the batter is just one way to have fruit with pancakes. You can do it this way with almost any kind of fruit. Just experiment with your favorite fruits.

You can also throw the fruit on top. If you don’t like warm, cooked fruit, doing it this way will keep it fresh and delicious. For example, load up the finished pancakes with fresh sliced strawberries and top it off with some creamy whipped cream.

Fruit goes great with pancakes, that’s just a matter of fact. Give it a try and experiment with different kinds of fruit. You may find that some fruit tastes awful, while other fruit that you’d never thought would be good is great.

How to Make Easy Silverdollar Pancakes

10 April, 2009 (06:19) | Food | By: Samantha Asher

by Jerry K. Paulsen

What kind of pancakes do you like to make? Basic, plain pancakes are delicious when they are fluffy and golden brown and they are smothered in butter and drizzled with syrup. You could also make banana, chocolate, or blueberry pancakes, or you could make silver dollar pancakes.

How are silver dollar pancakes different from regular pancakes? They actually aren’t that different, usually. They are essentially just basic pancakes that are much smaller. They are smaller than the usual pancakes that are about the width of a cantaloupe in size.

Silver dollar pancakes are about the size of the width of an apple or so. Think of silver dollars from the sea, that’s how big they are. How do you make them? Most people just use a plain pancake recipe and make tiny pancakes.

Do you want to make silver dollar pancakes that are tiny and delicious? Here is how to do it very easily. The first step is to look for a good basic pancake recipe. If you have recipe you use all the time, use that. Otherwise, look for a great one on the web or ask around.

You could also use a recipe that is made for silver dollar pancakes. Like I already said, some of these are just basic pancakes, but others are different. Some are completely different by still have a great texture and flavor.

Take your recipe and briefly look it over to make sure you have everything you need. Start by measuring out the ingredients and then combine and stir them together according to the instructions being careful not to beat them too much.

When the batter is finished, heat up a griddle to medium high heat, or about 300 degrees F. Lightly grease it with oil or a non stick cooking spray. Pour the batter a tiny bit at a time to make small pancakes.

You won’t need to cook them longer than a minute, if that, because they are smaller. Just cook them until they are golden brown then flip and brown on the other side. Serve them hot with butter, syrup, and a tall glass of milk.

Should you Make your Own Pancake Mix?

1 April, 2009 (03:54) | Food | By: Samantha Asher

by James S. Garret

These days everyone is busy. Most people have to wake up early for work or school and have barely any time, if any at all to have any kind of breakfast, let alone a big fancy breakfast. We just don’t have time for it.

Do you like big breakfasts? What about pancakes that are golden brown and smothered in butter and syrup? Do you ever wish you had time to wake up in the morning and make yourself delicious pancakes?

If you don’t have much time to cook in the morning, you can cut back on the time it takes to make pancakes by using pancake mix. It cuts out an entire step of measuring out all the dry ingredients and you don’t even have to mix them together.

Pancake mix is also a great gift idea. Don’t know what to get someone? Try giving them food! Maybe there’s someone that you need to buy a gift for and all you know is that they like to cook. Pancake mix is great, also for those people who have everything or you don’t know what to get them.

You can almost never go wrong with food. They eat it, and it’s gone. They don’t have to worry about where to put it or if it matches everything else. Food tastes delicious. Everyone has to eat, right?

Whether you want to give pancake mix as a gift or use it yourself, you can either buy it or make it. Making it seems like it would defeat the purpose, but not if you make the pancake mix ahead of time. You can make it now and then have it ready for when you want to use it.

How do you make pancake mix? It’s very simple. You could find a recipe for pancake mix, or you could just use a regular basic pancake recipe. Just measure out all the dry ingredients and that becomes your mix.

Put the mix into a jar and then attach a recipe card to the jar with the rest of the instructions. Give it as a gift, or store it in the cupboard for later use. You can even add nuts or chocolate chips to the mix, if you’d like.

Make Fluffy Pancakes

24 March, 2009 (04:14) | Food | By: Sander Kay

by Sander Kay

What comes to mind when you hear the word pancake? You probably picture a golden brown color and feel the taste of fluffy texture in your mouth. Pancakes are all about golden brown, fluffy delicious flavor.

Have you every tried to make your own fluffy pancakes? Did they fail to come out as fluffy as you would have liked? It’s very likely that that’s the case. Making pancakes is easy, but getting that fluffiness you crave is not quite as easy.

Flat pancakes are caused by any number of simple or drastic mistakes. Most of these mistakes happen so easily, you don’t even realize you are making them, or you don’t even know they are mistakes.

The most basic cause of flat pancakes can be made by anyone as a careless mistake, but should be the first cause to look into. It’s pretty easy to catch if you know a little about baking. It could be because you forgot to add the baking powder or soda.

In every pancake recipe you find, you will see listed either baking powder or soda. As small the amount added is, you can’t forget it because it is very important. This ingredient is what makes the pancakes rise and adds to the fluffiness.

This isn’t the only thing that can cause flat pancakes. Mixing the batter has a big part in it as well. You must make sure you don’t beat the batter or mix it too much. This will cause the pancakes to be dense and tough.

If you want to get fluffy pancakes and avoid tough pancakes, be gentle when you combine the wet and dry ingredients. Don’t use an electric mixer, just use a wooden spoon and stir it all until combined.

You can make fluffy pancakes as long as you know what you are doing and you are careful. Don’t just throw everything together, pay attention to what you are doing and they should come out great.

Make Pancakes more Fun

12 March, 2009 (04:39) | Food | By: Joanna B. L. Lowes

by Joanna B. L. Lowes

Are pancakes boring? They are boring in the sense that you probably don’t have the time of your life when you eat them, but that probably goes for anything you eat. They are also pretty plain.

When you order pancakes at a restaurant or make them yourself, you probably get basic pancakes. Butter them up and drizzle with syrup and your good to go. Not too exciting.

If you want pancakes that are less plain and more flavorful, you can take one of two paths, or both if you want. You can either jazz up the batter or jazz up what you put on top. If you want, do both!

Are you looking for something that is far from a basic pancake recipe? You could look for an entirely different batter recipe. There are recipes out there like potato, cottage cheese, or chocolate, or you could make crepes.

If you aren’t interested in looking for a whole new recipe, try jazzing up basic pancake batter. You can be creative and throw in just about anything want. Try adding chocolate chips, m & ms, nuts, blueberries, or other chopped up fruit.

If you are afraid of adding stuff to the batter because you think you’ll mess it up, try adding it to the cooked pancakes. Instead of adding chocolate chunks to the batter, sprinkle it over top.

You can put any variety of stuff on top. You can turn them into a chocolaty sweet surprise, or you can be a little healthier by filling them with fruit and topping them with different kinds of fruit.

When you’ve set up your mountain of deliciousness, Top it all off with some whipped cream for an extra cool flavor. Don’t eat too much, but do enjoy!

Pancake Party Fun

8 March, 2009 (06:23) | Food | By: Samantha Bow

by Samantha Bow

Are your kids tired of clowns, pinatas, and pin the tail on the donkey? If you are fresh out of party ideas, don’t worry, there is always breakfast. Huh? Yes, breakfast. You can have a pancake party! Throwing a pancake party is something different that your child’s friends probably haven’t had. It is fun and unique and very simple! Keep reading to find out how easy it is to throw a pancake bash.

First come up with some kind of theme. You can make shapes, color the pancakes, etc. Try to be as creative as you can. For example, you can make it a chocolate theme and make everything chocolate, or you can make a fruit theme if you don’t want to give them so much sugar. Get lots of different toppings to make it more creative.

Next you need the ingredients and supplies. Once you know how many kids are coming, you can come up with how much of the ingredients you will need. Make a list before you go shopping so that you don’t forget anything. Get the staples such as flour, eggs, and milk and also get extra supplies such as spoons, bowls, and pans. Make sure you get all the regular party stuff like plates, napkins, tablecloths, etc.

Also get your party supplies. You will need tablecloths, cups, plates, napkins, utensils, etc. Make sure they all match and that they all go together with your theme. For example, you could go for a tropical theme and use tropical fruit with your pancakes.

Have a plan before the party. If the kids know you don’t know what you’re doing, they might go crazy and take advantage of the situation by making a mess. Set up individual stations for each task. Have one group measure the ingredients, another mix, and another pour on the pan. Make sure the kids arent too young that they can burn themselves on the pan. You might want to do this part yourself or have plenty of supervision around. Have each of the kids dress up their own pancakes.

Another great option is to have the kids each personalize their own pancakes. They can draw with the batter or write on the pancakes themselves with frosting and toppings. Use lots of colors and let them choose whatever they want.

Don’t fret too much about the specifics of the party. Make sure the kids are having fun and you’ve met your goal. be creative and watch the kids and maybe you’ll have a little fun too!

Throw a Brunch

6 March, 2009 (06:27) | Food | By: Patrick Cater

by Patrick Cater

Whether its a Sunday morning and you want to invite some of your friends over to get together, or you need to throw some sort of celebration party for a coworkers promotion, a great way to do it is by holding a brunch. Throwing a brunch might seem difficult, but its no more difficult than throwing any other type of party, you just need to know what you are doing.

Start by coming up with a theme. Your going to service breakfast, but what exactly are you going to serve? Are you going to make it easy and serve bagels and donuts? Or are you going for the works with eggs, bacon, toast, etc. The fancier the food, the more costly it will be and the more work it will be.

The more people that come the more it will cost. Don’t serve the fancier more expensive foods when you know a lot of people are coming. Try to tone it down. Make more expensive and detailed foods when there are less people and it is going to be more intimate.

If you are going to do a quick lunch or a more detailed lunch you are going to need specifics either way. What kind of food will you need? Be specific about what kinds and how much. Don’t forget beverages, plates, napkins, utensils, etc. Make up a grocery list with specific items and amounts.

Are you going to make it a pancake brunch? Decide if you will offer lots of varieties of pancakes or lots of varieties of toppings. Be creative. If you give a lot of choices, it can be more fun and exciting for your friends.

Decide on how much food you will have to serve. Make sure you know how many people will be attending. If its at work, it shouldnt be too difficult because most people do go to work on a regular basis, but if its your own party, try to get people to R.S.V.P. Be accurate with your food so that you dont waste food and money. If you are going to have eggs, bacon, sausage, toast, potatoes, and donuts, dont expect that everyone is going to have the same amount of each. Still, make sure you have enough. Buying too much and having left-overs is better than running out and leaving half of your guests without food.

Next you will have to think beyond food. Are you going to decorate? Even just having pretty tablecloths and napkins and fancy cups and plates can make it look just a little more special. You can do a lot with brunch decorations.

Make a date and ask for help if you need it. For a large crowd you will need some help. If you are worried about paying for it all or setting it up all yourself, ask other people to bring something. Finally, make sure and your guests all have fun!

How to Make Delicious Pancakes

25 February, 2009 (07:32) | Food | By: Christine L. Paulson

by Christine L. Paulson

Everybody loves pancakes. Even those who hate breakfast and never eat breakfast, they still love pancakes. Why? Simply because they are delicious. You can be everyone’s favorite person if you know how to make the most delicious pancakes they have ever tasted.

First, find a good recipe. Get a basic recipe for a cookbook or online or you can look for something unique like sour cream pancakes or crepes. Get whatever you like, just make sure you have the basic ingredients.

Before you dive in, measure the dry ingredients. Try to be as accurate as possible. Some ingredients will cause more problems than others if they are incorrectly measured like baking powder. If the recipe calls for sifted flour, sift it to get out the lumps. Mix all these ingredients together.

Now measure out and mix all the wet ingredients. If the recipe asks you to melt the butter, mix all the other wet ingredients first and then quickly add in the butter. Beat the ingredients thoroughly to combine them well.

Now mix together the wet and dry ingredients. Mix them thoroughly but do not over-beat it. If you beat it too much the pancakes will become tough. It’s okay if there are a few lumps, but just make sure there aren’t too many.

Heat a griddle or pan to medium high heat and lightly grease with butter, vegetable oil, or nonstick spray. With a ladle or measuring cup, pour about cups of batter onto the pan to make pancakes (that are/spaced) about 2 inches apart. Let them cook for about a minute. Little bubbles should start to form across the pancakes. This will tell you its time to flip. Cook for another minute on the other side.

When they are finished the pancakes should be a nice and golden brown on each side. Serve them war with syrup and butter or use another topping such as berries and whipped cream.
