Self-Catering Tips For Party Planners

28 August, 2010 (03:54) | Food | By: Chloe Schneider

Even if we all believe we are Martha Stewart and do everything by ourselves in creating a party, sometimes, accepting help is all we need. Everyone may benefit from an spare hand, even the most organized ones. So don’t be ashamed to ask for assistance, particularly in the cooking department, where the food, the life of the party, is cooked to perfection.

Cooking for dozens of guests isn’t simple. If you insist on doing so, be ready for the challenges it will bring. The hosting of the event, the crafting of the ornaments, the planning of the activities, and the coordinating of each and everything on the list would fall onto your shoulders. Top that with the planning and the preparing of the food menu and you likely won’t have much spare time on your hands left.

Party kind equals menu list:

If you are determined to be a hero and likewise cater your own party, you should specify first what kind of party you are having as your menu will be based on this. If you are having a kiddie party, then your food menu must be kid-friendly, no intoxicant ingredients or any food that would require the use of a sharp knife. A reunion party with your exercise and gym buddies should include foods that are low fats and low calorie.

That being said, you should also include mixture to your menu. Perhaps not all of your guests are meat-eaters, so you would be making all of them happy and satisfied if you include a little veggie fare for more choices.

Create a budget for the feast:

Just because you want to show off your culinary skills it doesn’t have to mean you must empty your wallet. Be kind to yourself and established a reasonable budget so you won’t go over board in picking up ingredients and add-ons. Count your guests and make an allowance, so you will still have additional food just in case someone crashes your party.

Reasonable amount means not too cheap as well. Being practical also means being realistic. In our current economic situation, all prices are going up. Make certain your budget will still allow you to purchase the needed ingredients. You can still do something to save on cost, though.

Go bargain hunting:

If you desire to look for a great deal, scour your area for discounted deals. Local stores and bargain shops offer items that have cheaper prices compared to your everyday convenient stores. You can find the napkins, dinnerware, decorations, cutleries, and others, as well as some food ingredients, to be a little less expensive there. Go ahead, scour the area for some great bargains that will help you save budget.

Don’t go too far, though. Your menu may require to include a specific brand of flavoring because of the taste and quality it can bring. Stick to that brand. You don’t need to compromise quality over price.

Established a timeline:

Organize your things to-do list by making certain the days and hours leading to the main event are set. Begin the preparation for foods that call for long planning. If it requires to be made a day or so before, allocate the needed time to get it done. Barbecues that need to be marinated overnight must be set the night before the party.. Desserts that need to be served fresh should be prepared an hour before the main event.

Hosting your own party may not be as simple as it looks but it shouldn’t be harder than it already is. After following the fundamentals, you should remember the most important of them all: enjoy!

Fighting A Losing Battle With Desserts

28 August, 2010 (03:53) | Food | By: Troy Marks

Appetizers begin the meal, the main dish is the main feature, but desserts, they are simply heaven. There are a lot of terms to define a dessert, but the most accurate one, I think everyone would agree, is it is simply irresistible.

You can have the most savorless meal or the most sumptuous steak for the main meal but they will never be complete without a sweet conclusion. Admit it, the toughest diet plan you have is no match for the sweet-looking masterpieces waiting for you at the end of the meal. Don’t try to struggle anymore. You can’t win a battle against a dessert.

A dessert can be in many textures or kinds. There is the classic chocolate cake and the steamy hot apple pie with creamy vanilla ice cream on top. There is also the healthy, fruit-filled bowl. Whatever you prefer, whether you want it natural and healthy or decadent and dark, there is always a dessert that you would fall in love with.

Ask yourself this: is it fair for you to deny the sweetest part of a meal when a soft sponge cake oozing with rich dark chocolaty syrup readily awaits you on the table? Can you really say you are strong enough to resist it?

Picture the richest chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream topped with another serving of chocolate sauce waiting for you to finish your meal. Or a hot and sweet country style apple pie topped with a creamy vanilla ice cream that is ready to be served at your behest. It doesn’t seem fair to refuse yourself such simple pleasures of life. So don’t.

Desserts are not just additional. They are one of the chief features of the meal. You may think of them as your prize for getting through a trying day at work or even a signal that you need to let go of the fat and juicy rib-eye steak. It’s not good for your mental health to decline one of the joys of life. Desserts are plainly the answer to your sanity. You may believe you are being physically healthy, but I bet you can’t stop thinking about that chocolate banana cake or that rich blueberry cheesecake or even that fruit gateau.

Don’t try to refuse it. Desserts are simply irresistible however you see it. Don’t worry, though. Because even if you lose a fight against desserts, you wouldn’t mind it at all.

Easy Party Hosting With Help From Catering Services

28 August, 2010 (03:48) | Food | By: Clyde Foster

Parties should be fun and worry-free. Aside from the celebrator, the real star of the show is the food. Unless it’s a party for dieters, a food-less party is not much fun. So even if you have great entertainment planned for the party, the food is always the special number everybody is waiting for. And to ensure that you have the best party in town, let the food be taken care of by hiring caterers.

Why prefer catering over your own cooking? Admit it, even if you think you are an exceptional cook, cooking for at least five courses for more than five people isn’t going to be a breeze. With catering, the party’s food menu doesn’t take much effort beyond choosing menu from a list.

Even if you argue that you are a master of cooking and you know you can take care of everything by yourself without feeling beleaguered, can you plan the whole party swimmingly with every little essential things present like cutleries and napkins and emcee the party simultaneously? Keep in mind that a party may include a dozen or more guests, even for a hundred or so guests.

Give yourself a break. It’s your party so you deserve to have fun. Even Martha Stewart needs people to help her. You think she chopped every single ingredient in her extensive menu while she cut and glued decorations simultaneously? Everybody requires help. Get yours in the cooking section.

But catering should not just be plainly food. It should be remarkable food. It should be complete with every little item that you may miss. There should be buffet table setting and warmers (food needs to be presented in a great setting to attract people and food should always be warm), necessary sauces, serviettes, disposable cutleries, and of course, a catering must – trash bags!

Another great thing about catering: it is a lot more economical than preparing the whole thing yourself. Think about it. It has everything. Each package has many courses. It doesn’t merely have a single starter, main dish and dessert routine. It has a lot of alternatives so your guests can feast on many offerings.

Catering gets the job complete. You and your invitees get to take lots of choices. The best thing of commissioning catering is that you, as emcee, get to take all the credit while your guests hail you as a party prodigy.

Have Your Lunch Delivered During Busy Days

28 August, 2010 (03:45) | Food | By: Sophie Perry

Wasting your break hour waiting in line at a fast food restaurant doesn’t look like a clever thing to do. Same goes for waiting for a table to clear at an eatery. Although you don’t wish to be troubled with lining up and waiting during your lunch time, you still have to eat. So why not call for food delivery instead?

Calling for food delivery is like calling your food to come to you. What is great about food delivery is that it is both quick and convenient. It is also less expensive to have your food delivered than going out to have it.

While it is correct that food delivery services call for an additional charge and a minimum order, it is still cheaper than leaving your place for your food. How so? Because if you think about it, the extra charge you will pay for food delivery is less expensive than the amount you will pay for gas or for the bus fee just to go to that eatery.

Unless it’s a really bad weather condition, you can have warm soup delivered to you without the hassle of fighting the elements. If you are not feeling really well enough to drive through the drizzle or it’s just simply too hot for you to go out, then there’s no need to. Let restaurants bring their food to you. That’s what makes it different from having a take-out meal or going through a drive-thru, you don’t need to go out. Let them worry about the traffic while you sit prettily at your house.

But also remember that restaurants can refuse to provide service if the weather is really bad or if there are unforeseen circumstances.

Restaurants that have food delivery functions also have good food packaging. They know that they won’t have repeat customers if they deliver their soup cold, desserts soggy, or burgers dripping for the first time. They should know how to keep food presentable as though it came straight from the kitchen.

Food delivery makes your lunch time hassle-free and convenient. It saves you a few dollars and energy as well. So why go out to hunt for your lunch if you can have food delivered to you?

Catering Serving For Your Food Party Needs

28 August, 2010 (03:40) | Food | By: Anne Olson

It’s not that simple to host your own bash. There are lots of things to plan on, consider, and think about. Where are you going to hold it? Are you inviting a battalion of guests or just a dozen few? What’s your party’s theme? Is your entertainment going to be enough? Those queries and more are going to harass you for sure. But while you take care of those, let others take care of the food for you. Hire a food catering service.

If you are holding your celebration in a restaurant, then you don’t have to consider catering anymore as the location will likewise take care of the food. But if you wish to hold it someplace else, for example, your own place, then please help yourself to a catering service. You may be a really good chef, but if you are not used to preparing for more than just two persons, you will likely bump across problems. Don’t forget, you are having a party, not an cozy dinner party for two. Aside from the invites, the place, the entertainment, and more, you also have to feed scores of people.

Hiring a food catering service will make your work a whole lot better. The caterer should take care of everything food-related, from preparation to cleaning – the most dreaded part of it all. So if you believe you are saving a lot of bucks by doing everything yourself, perhaps so, but what is a few bucks more to your own wellbeing?

The first step you have to do is get a caterer that specializes in the cuisine in line with your bash motif. For example, ask a caterer that specializes in true Aussie food if you are hosting an Australian outback party, or a caterer that knows how to cook vegan cuisine if you are having an animal lovers’ group party. Also, opt for a catering service that is halal-certified if you are having Muslim friends over.

Coordinate with your caterer to prepare a buffet feast. Unless you are having a kiddie party, then don’t even think about packed and ready meal. Multiple guests mean several tastes. With buffet, they can select a dish they wish. Get one or more of an all-vegetable fare, a pork meal, a beef cuisine, dessert, finger food, appetizer, and drinks. If one is allergic to cheese, he or she will most likely not choose your baked meatball rice topping with cheese, but will most likely go for your lamb shank, the other fare in the lunch course.

Remember that cost doesn’t always equal quality. Select a catering service that has the best value for your cash. Ask friends for suggestions and inquire a bit about the catering business before you sign a contract with them. There are lots of catering businesses out there, making competition really stiff, which means it is likely that you will find the one that can give you the best rate.

Help yourself through the challenging process of setting and organizing a bash by hiring aid. Food catering services will cut your work to half, since a large portion of an event is about the fare. Just bear in mind, order weeks beforehand to avoid problems.

Tips On Selecting The Proper Walk In Cooler

2 August, 2010 (04:50) | Food | By: Zack Derrick

There are several types of walk in coolers. I will recommend a walk in cooler with a combo box having both freezer and cooler compartments. As you might have heard, one of the simplest ways to defrost meat is by placing it inside a cooler first after you’ve taken it out of the freezer. The freezer also has its own door to keep the warm humid cooking area air from coming into the freezer compartment. The standard for freezers is to have 3 inches of insulation. A lot of walk in freezers go above and beyond this standard by utilizing four inches of insulation rather than merely three.

Regular galvanized metal was the standard set by the National Sanitation Foundation before, however they now modified it to metal floors which are more strong and pricey. The downside with galvanized floors is that they have an inclination to rust and dent as they age. Naturally we do not want food products stored within such unhealthy conditions. Carts and shelves are rolled on the flooring every so often and this will cause the floors to ultimately warp and bent. Steel floors are more durable and decrease the likelihood of warping. Stainless steel also doesn’t corrode.

There are walk in coolers that are fitted with built in floors and others that do not. There could be a little thermal loss with floorless walk in coolers though. Many distributors may try to offer the walk in coolers with the 4 inch floor slabs because the flooring make up about 20% TO 25% of the sale price. Getting rid of the floor would take 1 / 4 off the income from distributors. Floorless coolers can be less energy saving as it may take greater energy and electricity to even out the temperature. So, it might seem more affordable to get a floorless walk in cooler to start with however you may end up spending more on electricity later on.

Other skilled consumers also choose to buy coolers which have rigid foam building insulation as these are more affordable when compared to coolers that have built in flooring insulation. Thick set quarry tiles may be positioned on top of the insulation. And, on top of that, you can also install seamless vinyl safety flooring materials just like Altro or Multi-Tech epoxy tiles. To fortify the floors more, you could use boards that are waterproof just like Homasote, Durock and Den-Shield.

Choosing the right kind of flooring for your walk in coolers can be a little expensive but it is going to also offer some safety by eliminating steep, slippery ramps and allow racks and shelves to roll easily. This would make sure that food products on trays or cabinets will not accidentally spill in your freezer or all over flooring of the cooler.

If you want to learn more information on walk in cooler, you should visit Zack Derrick’s site on walkin cooler to get the latest news, compare offers, read reviews, learn all the facts and check where to shop.

Fish And Chips: People’s Choice In Snacks

29 July, 2010 (04:40) | Food | By: Stephanie Mays

There’s no denying it, fish and chips is one of the most familiar and most requested snacks around the world. It has been part of the to-go food group for as long as we know, and has always been a preferred choice along with the always dependable burgers. The delicious deep fried fish that is as tender in the inside as it is crispy on the outside and its every bit as tempting chips are just exactly what makes it irresistible.

It’s hard to track down the exact beginning of fish and chips, although the U.K. boasts to have been the first one to marry fish and chips together. It’s been said that Joseph Malin of London was the first to sell the two as one in 1860. Fried fish was already being sold in the city before that time, and chips already got its status as being a fast food product. Malin was said to be the one who united the two delicious treats together, thereby giving birth to a completely new specialty that is still exists today.

It quickly became a favorite in London and soon the rest of England. It also spread to neighboring lands Scotland and Ireland, as well as previous British colonies Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and Canada. Today, fish and chips is everywhere, including many Asian nations.

So what exactly is this legendary fish and chips? And is it true that chips are better with fish than with the renowned burger?

Fish in this case is made of deep-fried fish, commonly, cod or haddock, that is coated in a crispy batter and served with fat slices of fried potatoes. They are customarily covered in a newspaper. In the U.K., they are served with salt and vinegar, while other areas of the world serve it with tomato sauce and lemon slices or tartar sauce and chicken salt.

Chips here are cut bigger than the French fries we usually take with our burgers. They are also cooked longer. So burgers can rest easy that the order of fast foods is maintained. Fries go with them, while chips go with fish.

Fish and chips has always been a favorite takeout dish since it was first served to the public. There is little question that it will remain to be that way. It continues to be a great part of the fast food history.

Enjoy real Aussie fast food favorites fish and chips and burgers at an unbelievably low price.

Birthday Cake Candles: Cool Facts For Every Kid To Know

30 June, 2010 (06:03) | Food | By: Sarah Ritter

It has been a long-time tradition to include birthday cakes for the birthday celebrant and there’s no denying that most of the time the birthday cake becomes the most special part of the party not just because everyone loves it but because no birthday party would look complete without it. But why birthday cakes? Why not colourful jell-o or something else that is eye catching and colourful? There are actually several noteworthy truths about these birthday cakes

First let us identify what are considered as birthday cakes. Generally, these are any sort of sponge cake that may come in various sizes, flavours, and fancy finishings. As long as at least some candles can be put on top of it, the birthday cake would immediately be recognisable among visitors.

According to research, the making of birthday cakes began when the Greeks offered Artemis, the Goddess of Moon, round-shaped cakes made of special flour and grains, which imitated the shape of the moon.

In later years, particularly during the Middle Ages in Germany, the making of birthday cakes became more prevalent, especially for a year old baby. The tradition lived on. Although birthday cakes are for everybody across ages, parents would bake birthday cakes usually for the younger children.

In Western culture, these birthday cake candles mean a person’s age. It is especially popular among children as they actually grow more thrilled to count the candles on their cakes or to see the numbers add up as each year passes by. However, as they become teenagers and become adults, they usually tend to have one candle just to decorate birthday cakes. The candles now bear a different meaning, signifying a desire for light in the present and future years of their lives.

Another perspective points us to the notion that our forebears perceived that smoke emitted from a put-out candle would rise to the heavens and reach the gods, and carry with it our most fervent wishes.

Now that you have a deeper wisdom of the tradition that is blowing your birthday cake candle, you can have a better enjoyment of it, understanding its meaning in your life.

Meaning Of Halal Labels In Eateries

26 June, 2010 (04:30) | Food | By: Nash Powell

The term “halal” is getting more and more ubiquitous on restaurant establishments and food product tags nowadays. Although we sure enough have an idea of what it means, most of us still don’t kow what it fully signifies. We may know it has something to do with Islamic practice, but that may be all we know at this point.

To simplify its meaning, Halal means lawful in Islamic laws. A halal-certified restaurant means our Muslim brothers and sisters can let themselves eat in the place without concern of breaking any Islamic laws. Being halal-certified means all the ingredients used and the preparations of the food are in accordance of the rules of Sharia, or the way Muslims should live.

You can say that a halal restaurant attends to of all its customers. It’s easy to be a halal restaurant in Muslim countries, but in areas that have integrated religious groups, not every establishment bothers themselves to be halal-certified. So when an eatery chooses to be a halal restaurant and practices all food preparation according to the Islamic rules when it is located in a nation where there are blended groups, then it just means that it prioritizes all the customers they have.

And even though halal-certified establishments are growing in number these days, being a halal restaurant isn’t merely positioning a sign outside the establishment. It takes careful practice from the butchering of its meat to its cautious pick of its ingredients to its watchful preparation of the menu.

It also does not stop there. There are lots of other practices and rules a halal restaurant must stand by. The utensils and materials used for the preparation of non-halal items should never be used in preparation of halal food to avoid cross-contamination.

A halal restaurant gives patrons more options. Muslim diners do not need to choose between great food and compromising their religious beliefs. They don’t have to settle for less. That is why a halal restaurant gives more respect to their customers.
