People’s Choice: A Different Kind Of Anaheim Catering Experience

2 September, 2010 (05:15) | Food | By: John Carl

Every now and then, something simple gives you a really nice surprise. Like your kid saying “yes sir” and doing what they were told without prompting, a pat on the back from your boss, a kind word from a stranger. For me, while I certainly appreciate all of those things, my favorite moments tend to be with food. It turns out I’m not that easy to impress. But I found something recently in the Anaheim catering listings that’s worth more than a second look. The People’s Choice Cafe in Anaheim is one of those rare places that stands out – it’s different, and that’s a really good thing.

Now it’s not very often that I find myself needing to feed twenty people. But it happens, like when my wife’s extended family descends upon us en-masse. I’m a bit of a foodie, and so I appreciate entertaining with providing the most basic need we have (besides breathing) food. And I love food. So really good food always catches my attention. But food is more than just chewing something tasty, it has to have other things to make it a really great experience. We can all pop open a can of something and get full, it’s quite another to be served by someone who really cares – with really great food.

I’m not a huge sandwich guy either. The wife loves them, but typically I’ll stick with a fat steak or something complicated that takes me hours to prepare. But People’s Choice doesn’t say they have the best dressed sandwiches for nothing. It’s obvious that the owners, John and Victoria Mouroulis take a lot of pride in making really great food, and even something as simple as a sandwich takes on a whole new meaning in their place. When asked what the most rewarding part of serving their customers was Victoria doesn’t hesitate for a second; “Building a relationship with them…we enjoy making part of their day enjoyable and seeing them frequently makes our day enjoyable.”

They aren’t just building sandwiches at the People’s Choice cafe, they are doing something else. And yes, they do more than sandwiches, but you simply have to have one. Really, and this is from a guy who isn’t a huge sandwich lover. What comes through every part of the Mouroulis’ cafe is that they like you. The staff of cooks with decades of experience, other places can boast that. Other caterers may talk about big portions and high quality ingredients, but People’s Choice does it that way because it’s what they would do for family. They know your name and make it a treat. Just like I try to impress my extended family when I cook, they do it for every single person who comes to them. You’ll come for the food, you’ll come back for more than the food.

And it’s good food (have I mentioned I like that)? You’ll never worry about having John and Victoria cater at your office with all those persnickety folks who can complain about almost anything – the food is going to be great. But it’s also the service that’s going to make a difference. I’ve used caterers that brought in big pots of this and huge trays of that and the food was okay, but it didn’t come with the smile and the personal touch. It certainly didn’t feel like family. If you really want the whole package for your next office party or luncheon (or breakfast) you won’t find anyone who can make everyone there love the food and enjoy the service like People’s Choice.

Lots of businesses talk about community, but People’s Choice puts it into action. You’ll find a table in the cafe where local businesses leave their cards and literature. Everyone working together. One business helping another. And you can see it in how they treat people too. They seem to know almost everyone by name and it feels a bit like – family in there. And that was my nice surprise. I went looking for an Anaheim catering company and I found something else. I found a great, no, a fantastic sandwich and a place that felt like home. The fact that they can bring that little bit of home to you is something not every caterer can do. You can tell they care, and it makes everything they do stand out from the rest of the pack, even something as simple as a sandwich.

People’s Choice specializes in Anaheim catering. To have People’s Choice cater your next event give them a call at 866-815-4487 or visit their website: PeoplesChoiceCafe.net

Tips And Hints: Anna’s Pizzeria And Roger Williamson Present Keys To A Quality Pizza

23 June, 2010 (06:39) | Food | By: Roger Williamson

A list of the keys to a quality pizza would not be complete without this pointer: always choose the best quality ingredients. Whether you are selecting herbs, tomatoes or toppings, choose the freshest and best quality.

The crust should be light and not too chewy. Over-mixing the batter can cause it to be tough, so use a light touch. Quality flour is important for achieving a delicious crust. There are a great variety of variations for pizza crust from whole wheat to spelt flour. Whatever type you choose, make sure you flour is the best quality possible.

Pizzas that are made from scratch are likely to beat store-bought kinds in terms of taste. It is easy to see why homemade pizzas are fresher tasting than frozen types from the store.

A homemade pizza also offers the opportunity to control ingredients; that means you can leave out preservatives and additives which are included in many store-bought types. Some make-your-own-pizza kits have improved over the years in terms of taste and quality; however, many people agree that the taste of a homemade pizza is superior.

The simple ingredients of time and effort also influence how the pizza tastes. For instance, giving the dough enough time to rise will help you to achieve light, crispy crusts. Rolling out or tossing the pizza base carefully results in just the right thickness. This means the dough will evenly cook, for a good pizza texture.

Spending time cooking fresh tomatoes to make your own sauce adds flavor. Many cooks like to roast garlic in the oven; the effort pays off in a pizza with a delicious taste.

The keys to a quality pizza also relate to cooking. From brick ovens, to pizza stones, to cooking under the grill, many chefs have their own take on the best way to cook a pizza. The main idea, however is to distribute heat so that the crust cooks evenly while drawing out moisture. This will result in a light and crispy pizza base.

The Toppings Of Pizza: A Short History

2 June, 2010 (07:32) | Food | By: Daniel Abers

We all know what pizza is now but how many of us really know what the true origins of this food are. Not as many as we think i am pretty sure of that. Let’s take a look into the things that we overlook when it comes to the origins of pizza.

The Italians were not the first to invent the pizza. When we look back in time we find that the people that lived in middle east areas of the world were the ones that were really responsible for the beginnings of the pizza. In particular we can find that the Greek people were among the first to eat a version of flat breads that incorporated the use of oils, spices and cheese to enhance them.

The pizza we know and love was created by an Italian baker in the late 1800’s who had a goal of impressing some royalty that was coming through town visiting. He used the colors of that symbolize the country as his motivation for the way he made it. The sauce was to symbolize the red, the cheese would do the same but for the white, and the basil was symbolic of the green. This became a huge hit in the country and many other people followed his lead and made their own.

When the 1900’s hit the pizza had found its way to America. This was due to the Italian immigrants that came to the country and decided to take up permanent residence in cities like New York and Chicago. People found that they could locate pizza in areas that had a high number of Italian residents in it. Over time small establishments took it upon themselves to add this fare to their menus so even more people came to enjoy it. American soldiers also helped increase the popularity of this food as they had often seen it while they were serving on the Italian fronts during the war.

Americans love this as much as the national pastime. They all seem to forget about how these things all come to be in existence. They think of only the things they are sure of and never think to dig further into the history to find out the actual origins of things. Those that have made millions of dollars over the years should be giving thanks to those that are responsible for originating the pizza.

There is a lot of information about the origins of pizza that can be found on the internet. Looking through some of this reading material can open your eyes to a huge assortment of information that many people forget about when it comes to this common delicacy.

Types Of Pizza

13 May, 2010 (07:46) | Food | By: Dan Sullivan

The origins of pizza creates quite the debate. A recent archaeological discovery has found a preserved Bronze Age pizza in the Veneto region. By the Middle Ages these early pizzas started to take on a more modern look and taste. The peasantry of the time used what few ingredients they could get their hands on to produce the modern pizza dough and topped it with olive oil and herbs. The pizza has quite the history!

The pizza is an international taste sensation! Local regions have produced their own pizzas and pizza culture. Pizza is such a diverse dish; it can be dressed up, or down and can be eaten at any occasion! Below is a brief look at the different types of pizza.

Neapolitan. Normally cooked in a wood-fired or brick oven, good Neapolitan pizza emerges with an extremely thin, bubbled crust. Slightly charred areas will offer hints of bitterness to offset the sweet-tangy flavor of tomato sauce and the licorice flavor of julienned basil. Scattered pieces of fresh mozzarella accent, rather than cover, the tomato sauce.

A Neapolitan pizza is never served by the slice, and rarely comes out pre-cut. The New York style pizza is like the Neapolitan one, while it is larger in size and the toppings on it are more, because it’s often consumed by more than one person, while the Italian original pizza is eaten by a single person only.

Hawaiian pizza, despite not having been created in Hawaii, is a normal pizza with pineapple and ham as its toppings. This pizza is extremely popular in America, Australia and Sweden; and is gaining popularity in the rest of Europe. The naming comes from the pineapple; it has a warm weather theme to it, hence the Hawaii naming.

Pizza, originally from Italy and introduced to the rest of the world by italian migrants, has become one of the world’s most popular culinary dishes. Australia and USA almost lead the charge in its popularity by adapting original recipes with local delights. Pizza is an all occasion delicacy enjoyed around the world!a
