How to Write an Informative Restaurant Review

3 February, 2010 (05:06) | Food | By: Adriana Noton

Writing a restaurant review is a fun way to share your thoughts and impressions about your dining experience. To write an informative review, you need to have knowledge about what key points you should include in your review. Not only is properly describing the food important, but you must have an understanding about the details of the restaurant. Once you have knowledge of the essential points to include, you then can present a well structured and organized restaurant review.

The following are a number of helpful tips to help you write a restaurant review:

1. Before you write a restaurant review, it is important to know how to structure the review. Make sure you are very descriptive and detailed. It is a personal review so emphasize your own writing style. Write complete sentences and use plenty of descriptive words and phrases. Write it in chronological order that includes from the moment you enter the restaurant to when you pay the bill and leave. Describe the restaurant in the present tense and in the second person. Using your own personality will help make the review unique.

2. Pick a restaurant you want to review. For example, you might choose Restaurants in Montreal. Or it might not even be a restaurant – it could be a cafe shop in Montreal. You want to make sure that there will be food that you like. When you enter the dining establishment, note such details as the interior appearance that includes the arrangement of tables, furnishings, decorations, colors, lighting, and the cleanliness of the restaurant. Make sure you check out the condition of the bathrooms. As well, make a note of the friendliest of the staff, how long you have to wait to be seated and its location, and if the hostess asks if you would like a beverage. When you are seated, make a note of the atmosphere of the restaurant. Is it friendly, extremely busy and loud, or relaxing?

3. Once you receive a menu, note the variety of meal choices, prices, any unique dishes, and if there are any healthy meal options. You should have an appetizer, entre, and dessert to get the full dining experience. When you receive the meal, note if the food is cooked properly. Does it have a distinctive taste such as spicy or sweet? What is the portion size? When you make your meal selection, make sure it something you normally enjoy eating, As well, note how you are treated by the servers. Are they friendly, well dressed, courteous, knowledgeable about the food and specials, and attentive? Make a note of the meal’s presentation, taste, smell, and if it is hot or cold. Make sure that you use descriptive and creative words. Suggest who may enjoy the food such as families or people who enjoy fine dining dishes. As well, note how long it takes to receive your bill.

When making your recommendation, make sure you have made a note of anything you disliked about the restaurant and the total cost of the meal and if you received good value for your money. When ending the review, make a statement about whether or not you would return. Writing a restaurant is more than just reviewing the food. By understanding the key elements that should be included in the review, you will have a fun restaurant review experience and hopefully provide valuable consumer information.

Etiquette For Waiters In Restaurants

27 January, 2010 (07:16) | Food | By: Adriana Noton

There aren’t too many things worse than having nice dinners at restaurants ruined by waiters who act inappropriately or stupidly. Some things waiters should and shouldn’t do seem obvious to the diners but sometimes manage to escape the servers. If you are in the restaurant business, there are some very basic principles to know.

To begin with, you should never bother the patrons by standing around their tables when they are trying to eat. After the food has been served, wait a few minutes and then go check to make sure everything is satisfactory. Then leave them alone to eat in peace. If they need you for anything, they will try to get your attention. So keep an eye on everyone in case somebody is trying to get your attention.

Also, don’t pressure them into making a decision about ordering if they are not ready. If they say that they need a few minutes, actually give them a few minutes before you come back. Don’t come back in 1 minute with pen in hand. If they are not sure what they want, don’t roll your eyes or otherwise express annoyance. It really shouldn’t matter to you how long it takes them to order anyway.

If the restaurant customer has a complaint, ALWAYS say you are sorry. Even if you are not. Do not blame them or make excuses. Apologize and tell them that you will find a way to solve the problem. If there is nothing you can do for them about their particular concern, find somebody who can.

Another important topic concerning waiters is removing plates. It is downright shocking how many waiters magically appear the moment a patron’s fork touches the last piece of food. Before they even have a chance to chew that final bite, the dishes are scooped up and whisked away. This can make the customer feel as though you have been counting down the seconds until they finished so that they can leave. Not good.

Something else to keep in mind about dishes is this: Never, ever take away one person’s plates is somebody else at the table is still eating. This is outrageously rude! This could make the person who is still eating feel uncomfortable or rushed into finishing his or her meal. The number of waiters who do this to customers is astounding. Please don’t be one of them.

Additionally you should never chomp on gum or play with your hair while talking to customers. Don’t shout or argue with other employees when diners can hear you. Don’t light up a cigarette where they can see you. No whining about how tired you are how you can’t wait to go home. Do not yawn or act bored or otherwise give off the impression that serving them is a nuisance for you. And by all means don’t count your tips in view of people eating. Nor should you hint at getting tips.

As for the things you should do: Do dress neatly and make sure your hair is combed. Always smile and be polite. Remember to thank them for coming, and say it so that it sounds true. Even if it’s not.

Create Your Restaurant Menu Cover

14 January, 2010 (08:35) | Food | By: Zack Dobbins

Thinking of starting your very own restaurant? Or have you ever wondered what it is like to design your own restaurant menu cover? This activity is a fun and enjoyable one, as its main goal is to show one?s creativity and uniqueness. But before you decide to design your menu cover, there are some things that you should think about first:

What is your restaurant?s theme? Are you planning on a restaurant that is fun and comfortable for the whole family? This should be shown in your menu cover. Are you planning for a fine dining restaurant? Then make sure that the menu cover you create will show your customers the great service and special food that your restaurant has to offer.

When people dine in a restaurant, no matter what kind of restaurant it is, they do not want a menu cover that looks sloppy and cluttered. A little planning, a dash of creativity, and your customers will definitely appreciate the amount of work you put into designing your menu cover. It may seem as if a restaurant menu cover is not important, but it actually says a lot about your restaurant.

Still, you do not to spend days and days of long, hard work planning your menu cover. Some creativity, a little fun, and some amount of work and planning will do wonders to your design. Also, restaurant menu covers are the same for most of the restaurants; you want to make a unique menu cover that will set you apart from all the others, and make your customers keep coming back to you. Whether you have a fun or a serious design, the purpose should always be to draw customers in; showing them all the unique and special things you have to offer.

Some of the things you ought to consider in your menu cover are the text and its size; the colours, and also the images you want to place inside. As mentioned earlier, a menu cover does not need to be fancy; it can be simple, if you are aiming for a classic look. The size of your menu also varies with how many dishes you are offering, and the number and size of pictures you have inside.

Do you want pictures of the food you serve? This can be a way to make your customers order food which they are interested in, and yet have not tried. Fun images complement a fun menu cover, while a classic frame will look perfect for an elegant menu cover.

Do not think that your menu cover design is not necessary; a restaurant should not just have a simple list of the food it serves. Designing a menu cover should not also be a complicated job, as it can be simple and classic. An overly-designed menu cover can also work against you, as it can simply serve to confuse your customers.

Whatever design you want, and whatever theme your restaurant has, creating your menu cover should be an enjoyable experience. Keep in mind that all you need to do is to highlight the uniqueness of your restaurant, and show your creativity. This will assure that you have an effective menu cover that will make your customers enjoy your restaurant!

Tips For Buying A Commercial Oven For Your Restaurant

7 January, 2010 (09:03) | Food | By: Jane Pullman

Every restaurant in existence uses an oven, and all but the smallest ones need an effective commercial oven in their kitchens. New restaurant owners may be overwhelmed with the wide variety of potential choices, and I’d like to help inform you of a few potential possibilities.

When you decide which type you’ll need, you should let a number of different elements weigh in as the basis for this purchase. The two most important factors come down to the type of food you’ll be serving and the number of guests you plan to serve throughout the day.

Amongst the most popular breeds of this oven style is the convection oven. The best quality of this kind of cooking appliance is the fact that a fan within the oven blows the hot air around the inside of the oven, letting the heat be distributed evenly to the rest of the food.

This is particularly useful for foods that may have been cold or even frozen before being heated. As you may well know, frozen preparations are often spotty once they’ve been done with heating.

Another popular style of oven is the conveyor oven, which works as the name may indicate. Food travels along a belt and slowly gets heated through an organized, timed process.

Of course, another type of extremely common commercial oven used in restaurants is a pizza oven, which has the capacity to heat foods really quickly at extremely high temperatures. As a result, you’ll see other foods being heated with this oven from time to time.

When buying a commercial oven, there are many places you can look. The one you’ll go with should depend on what kind of food you’ll be preparing with it, and how much food you need to cook at once.

At this point, you should have a basic understanding as to the different oven styles. It’s your job to find the best deal, and you can do that by rummaging through online searches, classified ads, and local stores.

Learn more about commercial convection ovens and other varieties now.

Restaurant Menus Should Titillate The Taste Buds

6 January, 2010 (07:45) | Food | By: Adriana Noton

No matter how appealing the ambiance of a restaurant is, or how polite and helpful the servers are, you are there for one thing only. That is to enjoy the food. The first thing you are presented with is the menu. This is where you get your first impression of the food. Restaurant menus should therefore always look inviting and reflect the style of the restaurant.

Owners of any place where the public sits down to enjoy a meal should put some effort into designing a menu. From upper class fine-dining establishments to the diner down the street, it is essential, and respectful, to present an eye-catching menu. Reading a good menu should make you hungry! Make sure your menus are not caked in old food – this will put your patrons off immediately.

A family friendly restaurant should also include a separate kiddies menu. This will be a clear indication that the food is prepared and served to suit a child’s appetite and preferences. At the other end of the scale, consider elderly patrons when designing your menu. Make sure the text is easy to read. Don’t use elaborate fancy fonts in small print to describe each dish.

Use fonts that are in keeping with your restaurant’s theme. For example, if you own an upper class restaurant that serves exclusive cuisine, you may use curly, elaborate text. But a family restaurant should have a menu with text in trendy, bold and easily read fonts. Kids’ menus should be fun to look at.

The traditional way to list the items on a menu are the various groups, i. E. Appetizers, beverages, entrees, side orders and desserts. Many restaurants will group specific types of food on their menus. For example fish dishes, meat dishes, chicken dishes, seafood dishes, pasta dishes etc will all fall under separate listings.

If you serve meals all day long, it’s advisable to list breakfasts, lunches and dinners separately. Menus are more appealing if you use photographs or illustrations. If you have decided to include some photographs of your popular dishes on the menu, they must look delicious. There is an art to photographing food, so for the best results call in a professional.

Hold back on photos or illustrations if your restaurant is a classy establishment. The menu for a formal restaurant should have more wording and less pictures. A well written explanation of each dish is preferable. To further enhance the atmosphere of elegance, have a special section that gives the chef’s personal choices.

If you have some graphic design knowledge, you can create your own menu on your PC. But if not, rather get a professional designer to do the job. Whoever does the design should be imaginative and creative, but the main objective is to design a menu that looks appropriate for your type of restaurant.

The primary object of your menu is to make people want to enjoy your food. Whilst giving adequate details about your dishes, don’t have reams of boring explanations. Your prices should be in line with your competitors, but your quality should be better. If you want your patrons to become regulars, give them value for their money.

Save time and be hassle-free by using easy recipes for your daily meals. A healthy ingredient is eggs, and they are simple and easily accessible.

You Can Use Wendy’s Coupons For Cheaper Meals Out

3 January, 2010 (07:09) | Food | By: Collette Quinn

If you are one of the many people eating at Wendy’s you know why you love the food. Whether it is the burgers that appeal to the meat eater in all of us or you love the idea of a baked potato instead of a side of greasy French fries, Wendy’s is a great alternative to mass produced burgers. Many people also like the fact that the food is a good price as well as being great tasting.

Everyone loves eating well especially when they are on the move or in a hurry. Being able to save money while enjoying delicious food can be even better. If you are serious about saving money you may want to make sure that you can find Wendy’s coupons in order to save money each time you eat out. If you want to be able to find coupons you should get in the habit of searching different sources including newspapers, flyer packages, mass mailers that may be sent to your home and websites that let you print coupons off when you need them.

Although the internet is one of the best coupon sources around you should not give up if you are not able to access one on a regular basis. This is because Wendy’s puts out printed coupons in a variety of ways on a fairly regular basis, such as when they have a new product or special. They are available in the newspaper and in mailers which are sent to homes in a wide geographic area.

You can see by the way that the restaurant sends its coupons out that finding them is much easier with Wendy’s than it is with other restaurants. It can make it very easy to eat out on a budget because of this easy access to money saving coupons. Making it easy to afford to eat out is one way that Wendy’s builds and keeps its customer loyalty.

Because you can easily print out coupons you don’t need to worry about stocking up on them like you do with coupons from other places to eat. Because you can get them whenever you need them, you should be able to print out only the ones that you need rather than trying to stock up. Stocking up may mean that many of your coupons expire before you get the chance to use them especially if they are only valid for items that you are unlikely to purchase. The fact that they are easy to find is one reason why Wendy’s is such a popular restaurant.

Experts feel that learning how to live well within your means is a skill that people need to learn. Utilizing methods such as coupon collecting can make all the difference in your budget while still allowing you to enjoy a meal out with friends or family.

Who Offers Better Cup of Coffee?

12 November, 2009 (06:10) | Food | By: Neil Fisher

One of the most preferred drinks in the world is coffee. People love the taste, and even more so the physical boost it provides. Giving energy to both the body and mind, people have come to depend on it for work, not to mention the social benefits of it too.

Some people like to brew their coffee at home. Others simply rely on a diner or a coffee shop. Most Americans, however, choose one of two coffee giants. Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks have a grip on the American coffee market, and the presence of both brands seems to grow by the year.

There are those who claim that Dunkin Donuts is better, and they’re fiercely loyal to the brand. Others feel just the same way about Starbucks. Which is the better option of the two? Let’s have a look.

First, let’s look at Starbucks. The coffee giant has exploded during the last 15 years, and they’ve even expanded to various drinks and foods beyond coffee. You can now get pastries, breakfast, and sandwiches at Starbucks.

While people generally approve of the food, in no way does it compare to the coffee. Though they definitely enjoy the taste of the coffee, many people love the caffeine that one cup packs in. Starbucks offers up some of the strongest coffee out there.

Dunkin Donuts, on the other hand, offers less caffeine in its drinks. Some people prefer this, as they claim that Starbucks is simply too strong for them. People also seem to like the fact that Dunkin Donuts offers bigger cups of coffee for the same price.

So you get more for your money at Dunkin Donuts. Additionally, you’ll have more flavors to choose from. Between offerings like blueberry, caramel, coconut flavored coffee and more, Dunkin Donuts has a wider selection in the flavor department.

So, who wins the coffee war between Dunkin and Starbucks? It seems that Dunkin Donuts wins in blind taste tests according to some studies, but it really all comes down to a matter of personal preference in the end.

The History Of Chicago’s Pump Room Restaurant

22 October, 2009 (09:25) | Food | By: Ross Everett

Long a hangout of A-list celebrities, the Pump Room Restaurant in Chicago is still ‘hopping’ in the 21st century. The restaurant, memorialized in Frank Sinatra’s classic “Chicago”, was one of the first high level restaurants to open in Chicago after the Prohibition era. The eatery has seen countless celebrities including Marilyn Monroe, Clark Gable, Ronald Reagan, John Barrymore and countless others. For a while, it’s luster faded somewhat as the dining scene in Chicago led by Charlie Trotter passed it by.

Ernie Blyfield opened the Pump Room in the Ambassador East Hotel in late 1938. He took the name from an 18th century London pub favored by celebrities and nobility, including Queen Anne. The original pub got its name from the hot drinks pumped into the cocktails of its stylish clientele.

The Chicago Pump Room was an immediate hit, and for a time its Booth #1 may have been the most sought after table at any dining establishment in the country. In addition to Sinatra, who frequently held court with Jilly Rizzo and a number of other associates in Booth 1, it was occupied at various times by Clark Gable, John Barrymore, Gertrude Lawrence, Bogart and Lauren Bacall. Liza Minnelli may have been the youngest Booth 1 regular, taken there many times during her childhood by her mother Judy Garland.

Blyfield died in 1950, but the Pump Room remained a Chicago hot spot and hosted a new era of superstars including Mel Brooks, Beverly Sills, Paul Newman, Robert Redford. More recently, Michael J. Fox, Eddie Murphy and Mick Jagger have made appearances. A funny story involves former Genesis drummer Phil Collins, who was refused entry for not wearing a jacket. The incident was commemorated in the title of his next solo album No Jacket Required which has since sold over 14 million copies worldwide and launched Collins into solo superstardom. Following its release, the Pump Room sent Collins an apology”and an appropriate jacket so that the incident wouldnt be repeated.

The Pump Room experienced a revitalization in the late 1990’s when it was purchased by a large restaurant management group. They spent a lot of money to renovate the facility, overhaul the menu and hire a top flight staff. While the Pump Room’s golden era trade mark flaming food served on a sword was a tragedy of city fire codes, the menu is now on par with any in the city serving a sophisticated interpretation of classic American cuisine. In addition to the revamped cuisine, the Pump Room upgraded its wine offering and expanded the bar area.

The Pump Rooms stature has been maintained by current executive chef Nick Sutton. The star of the place, however, is still the almost palpable sense of history that the dining room offers.
