How Juicing Can Boost Your Childrens Health

17 February, 2010 (05:58) | Nutrition | By: Paul Marks

Many people make New Year’s resolutions, and I was no different this year. I decided to focus on my family’s and especially children’s health. However, you do not need to wait until New Year to make changes, you can set a date any time of the year to make a fresh start.

This year, my main focus was to increase my kids’ consumption of fruit and vegetables. No easy task, but an important one, especially over winter. The nutritional boost can help protect against colds and other viruses. I wanted them to eat more fresh, preferably organic, produce from the grocery store. In their fresh form, fruit and vegetables contain a huge amount of vitamins and minerals.

If you you knew my kids, whom I am sure are like many, this was not going to be easy. I did however find a solution, in the form of juicing. Not only does freshly squeezed juice contain so many nutritious benefits, the different combinations you can make prevents them from getting bored and, in fact, wanting more.

The following is some of the main benefits for juicing for kids:

1. I have found that involving the kids in the making ot the juice is a fun event and a great way to bond. They can stand on a chair and help you push all the fruit and vegetables through the machine. Not only do they enjoy it but they appreciate the drink more and will drink it with no fuss. Clean up is simple as well. taking only about ten minutes.

2. A lot of children are not big veggie eaters, especially if they are anything like mine. Juicing provides the perfect solution for getting them to eat a wide range of different veggies in their raw fresh state. So they are getting more benefits than if the vegetables were cooked. This makes everyone in the home happier.

3. If your children start to eat more fresh fruit juice you will find they will quickly go off sweet sodas. So not only do they get the benefits from the juice they reduce their intake of sugar, chemicals and additives. These can all contribute to childhood obesity and many illnesses later in life. It will also save you money on buying these expensive drinks as well.

If you have made or set any goals for your family this year, then make their health a priority and in particular look at juicing. It is great fun, that your children can be involved in and will provide them with many health benefits for years to come.

The Acai Berry at its Beginning

28 December, 2009 (05:02) | Nutrition | By: Brittany Koxlauger

Both the acai palm and the acai berry are native to the swamps and floodplains that grow in the regions of Central and South America. The acai fruit fits its translation absolutely and means “fruit that cries or expels water”. In the indigenous tribes of Brazil, the acai berry formed a considerable chunk of the eating habits. However, the latest surge in worldwide need for this berry have also led to the promotion of the palm which was not so prevalent previously.

Although the acai berries look a lot like grapes, they have a lesser amount of pulp and are a great deal smaller than grapes. They are green or dark purple in color, depending on species and maturity, and drape in bunches of 500 to 900 fruit. The seed is very significant and takes up nearly 80% of the volume of the entire fruit and is covered in a exceptionally slim layer of pulp. The berry is thought to be a food by itself and is taken salty or sweet depending on what has been mixed with it and as per resident as well as personal preferences. The pulp and juice obtained from it are served in a variety of ways all across Brazil, Peru, Belize and other countries in the region; with granola, mixed with ice cream, in liqueur, etc. Because of these inventive uses, the acai berry has grown in demand. This growth is also due in part to the recent marketing promotion as a dietary enhancement.

Even if marketers promote the acai berry as a wonder fruit with high fiber content, capable of producing improved libido, heart health, skin appearance, enhanced digestion, heightened energy levels, reduced cholesterol, etc., there have been no independent scientific studies confirming any of these claims. A lot of individuals have complained to authorities of absolute scams perpetrated by acai berry product manufacturers as well as retailers and of not getting any refunds for rejecting the product during the free trial period. If you are a potential customer, it would be wise to evaluate your options cautiously before making a ultimate decision about purchasing this product or not. Taken on the whole, the acai berry is strictly average as compared to other fruit in terms of nutritional content, anti – oxidant levels, fundamental vitamin content, etc.

Whatever little scientific studies have been conducted has revealed the berry in some of the forms mentioned in the preceding paragraph works well as a contrast agent in MRI scans. It is also a stable natural coloring agent and tests have revealed that its use may bring about a reduction in the proliferation of experimental leukemia cells in the laboratory.

Now that the plant is being cultivated, ample quantities of the seeds are set aside aside for planting in new groves or replenish damaged or destroyed tress. The seeds are regularly ground up to make food for pigs and consist of part of organic soil used at some stage in planting.

For your health you need to use today’s best nutritional food. You’ll gain tremendous health benefits from taking acai berry products daily will be tremendous. Your body will become nutritionally balanced, strengthen your immune system with its antioxidants and you’ll have more energy. Enjoy this supplement as acai berry juice or you can get it in capsules and freeze dried powder.

Watch out for These Vitamin C Problems

15 December, 2009 (09:15) | Nutrition | By: Spencer Hall

Vitamin C is a key component to the structure to cartilage, muscle and bones, since it allows the formation of a special protein. Scientists have also known that it is essential to absorb iron in the body.

According to scientific research it is good to note that ingesting more vitamin C than required, doesn’t provide any enhanced benefits.

When you don’t have enough amounts, though, you will suffer from symptoms such as lassitude, weakness, swollen gums, scurvy and even nosebleed. There are varied reasons that can lead to a deficiency, including a bad diet, alcoholism and improper absorption.

This condition like other problems of this kind has risk factors that facilitate the condition.

It has been observed that babies born of women who have taken great excessive amounts of vitamin C are prone to develop wheezing when they are approximately two years old.

As a matter of fact many doctors avoid the use of vitamin C supplements in women. Instead they take a much better approach, advising to include food sources in the diet that provide this vitamin. In infants, supplementation can lead to the development of food allergies and asthma.

A vitamin C deficiency can lead to anemia, since it is needed for iron absorption. This in turn will lead to a reduced red blood cell count, and poor iron levels. A development of this condition will result in less oxygen being carried through the blood stream.

Anemia and deficiency can be characterized by weakness and pallor when the symptoms are mild. Acute problems will lead to dizziness and unconsciousness along with other severe symptoms.

Scurvy is yet another one of the symptoms cause by a C deficiency, scurvy brings along tiredness, poor wound healing, weakness, constant aches and pain and easy bleeding.

Finally, keep an eye for the state of your gums, a deficiency will cause swollen gums that look purply and feel spongy. It is essential to get a great diet to avoid the problems mentioned here.

Vitamins are needed for the correct functioning of the body, learn all about the vitamin C deficiency symptoms and other types of vitamin deficiencies and learn how to avoid them.

4 December, 2009 (06:06) | Nutrition | By: Chalo Balauri

Vitamins are greatly needed for the correct work of the body, our organs, functions, and ultimately our lives depend on them. That’s why when we don’t get enough vitamins, we start suffering the dreaded symptoms of a lack of them.

There are as many deficiencies as there are vitamins, each one named with a letter for instant recognition. Some letters contain sub-vitamins which are part of the same family, like for example vitamin B (B6, B12, B5), but they are usually treated as a whole.

If yo want to prevent these type of problems the best way to do so is thanks to a healthy, nutritious diet and a healthy lifestyle. However, we have to know that not all deficiencies are the result of a malnutrition problem. Vitamin D for example, is acquired through other source.

Vitamin D comes to our body thanks to the aid of the sun, the rays of the Sun on our skin help us process the vitamin and ensure we have healthy levels of it. Yet, there are people who believe sun exposure is harmful. It could only be that way if we abuse of it, like other things in life.

The symptoms of a vitamin deficiency will vary according the type of deficiency you are suffering from, it would be a good idea to get online on a specialized website and find about the different types of common symptoms regarding each vitamin.

This problem is not as common as other types of conditions, yet it is still present. The most common types of vitamin deficiencies are vitamin D, vitamin C and vitamin B12 deficiency. People at risk include pregnant women, small children, infants and people with absorption issues.

The treatment of this condition or problem will depend n the severity the doctor determines. In mild cases treatment can be fast and with the use of simple oral supplements or diet readjusting, in severe cases another approach may be needed.

Consult your doctor to get proper testing and see if you have this problem.

Vitamin B12 deficiency is rather common inside the whole group of problems, take a look at vitamin b12 and anemia problems for more information.

Are Multivitamin Supplements Really Essential to Your Health?

10 November, 2009 (08:40) | Nutrition | By: Hien Chung

Are multivitamin supplements really necessary? In fact, yes; that’s especially true if your diet is deficient and doesn’t provide adequate nutrition, because they’ll fill in the nutritional gaps your diet doesn’t provide. That doesn’t mean you can eat unhealthily all the time and get away with it, but multivitamin supplements can give you nutritional support if your diet is less than optimal.

Multivitamin vitamin supplements include vitamins as well as minerals. The minerals included are important to everyday health, and many people can be deficient in them. They include magnesium, iron, calcium and zinc. Multivitamin supplements also contain many different vitamins, as listed below.

Vitamin A is found in many multivitamin supplements. Deficiency in vitamin A is uncommon unless you are elderly. It is vital for your immune system to function optimally, and it is sometimes taken to prevent bone loss and certain types of birth defects. But vitamin A should never be taken in large doses because it can be dangerous.

Beta carotene is an antioxidant in multivitamin supplements that helps increase white blood cell numbers and boosts the body’s disease fighting immune activities. Together, vitamin A and beta carotene keep the cells in your eyes healthy.

Folic acid is especially important during pregnancy and is included in prenatal multivitamin supplements. Folic acid deficiencies can lead to low birth weight and an increased risk of neural tube defects such as spina bifida in babies.

B vitamins, too, are important to good health, and most are usually found in multivitamin supplements. Folic acid is among the B vitamins, with pyridoxine another. B12 and pyridoxine are important to control levels of homocysteine in the blood; high levels of homocysteine can cause strokes, heart disease, and Alzheimer’s disease. Vitamin B12 can also fight memory loss, anemia, and heart disease. Thiamine, or B1, is important for optimal brain function. Niacin, also called vitamin B3, helps prevent the disease pellagra. It’s relatively rare to get pellagra, but this niacin-deficient disease can cause inflamed mucous membranes, scaly sores on the skin, mental confusion and diarrhea.

Vitamin C boosts the immune system and is an antioxidant, and also helps keep skin healthy; it also helps to heal wounds and prevent scar formation.

Vitamin D is necessary to properly absorb calcium, a mineral. If you’re deficient in vitamin D, you can experience fractures, bone loss, and a disease called rickets, which can lead to extreme bone pain. The body can manufacture Vitamin D if you have enough sunlight exposure, but it’s usually included in multivitamin supplements because it can be difficult to get. However, it’s toxic in large doses, so be careful how much you take.

Vitamin K, too, is another important vitamin, and its deficiency can cause osteoporosis (brittle bones), easy bruising, and bleeding.

Vitamin K, vitamin D and calcium (a mineral) are found in many multivitamin supplements; calcium is necessary to build and maintain proper bone mass. If you consume enough calcium (along with vitamin D and vitamin K), you can reduce the risk of bone fracture once you get older.

While multivitamin supplements may provide more than 100% of your recommended daily allowance of some vitamins, it is not a good idea to consume enormous amounts of any vitamin or mineral. The levels in multivitamins are generally considered safe, but supplements containing individual vitamins sometimes contain doses large enough that they could be risky.

Although it’s possible that your diet provides 100% of your recommended daily allowance of the necessary vitamins and minerals, it’s relatively rare that any one person can do so every single day, especially with the lives most of us lead. There are lots of different multivitamin supplements available on the market, and you may need to do some research to decide which one is best for you. If you experience side effects when you begin to take a multivitamin supplement, stop taking the supplement and see if the problem subsides. If it does, ask your doctor to recommend a multivitamin supplement for you.

About a dozen vitamins are recognized as important to consume in recommended quantities. If you shortchange yourself on any of them, you can get symptoms of vitamin deficiency. Multivitamin supplements do a very good job of filling any nutritional gaps in your diet, but they are no substitute for maintaining a healthy lifestyle, with regular exercise and a healthy diet included.

Reverse Ageing – The NEW Secret of AC-11

6 November, 2009 (07:11) | Herbs and Spices | By: Keith Woolley

So the next time you join a discussion about getting older or even Reverse Ageing and when you start sharing the fascinating Reverse Ageing facts below, your friends will be absolutely amazed to your secrets!

How can anyone put a limit on learning more? The following section may contain that one little bit of wisdom that changes everything.

REVERSE AGEING NOW!

Longevity, It’s not a fountain after all…..

Long gone, an obscure but unique plant was discovered in the Amazonian rain-forest. It is named Uncaria tomentosa, a vine that grows among the plentiful, exotic plethora of botanical species, some of which have not begun to be catalogd by biologists. More commonly known to the neighbors as “Ua de Gato” or “Cat’s Claw,” its outer bark contains a powerful, natural activator of DNA repair, vital to cellular health and imperative to longevity.

The advantages of Uncaria tomentosa just about make it sound like a cure all. It helps keep the immunity mechanism working properly. It helps stop cellular damage, and damage to DNA. And whilst much of the action of Uncaria tomentosa takes place deep within the cells of the body, it also works to definitely affect the outward, visible signs of aging such as wrinkles and sun spots – conditions linked to the aging process in which the body produces imperfect DNA. What is the connection between DNA and aging?

Put simply, DNA is able to absorb the amount that we inherit from our folks. When we are born, our genetic code, or DNA, is virtually spotless. Each particular nutrients. It is made primarily based on our DNA, and each cell becomes a holder of our complete genetic blueprint. As we grow and age, our bodies and our DNA are consistently bombarded by things in the environment that can damage our DNA. A nice example is the sun. Prolonged exposure to the sun finally damages our skin cells (and their DNA) and leads to wrinkles or worse. In truth, any damage to our DNA at last becomes the root of the negative results we associate with aging. This damage all of the cause of various ailments we encounter throughout our lifetimes.

If the body can’t produce clean copies of our DNA, our health and longevity will be without delay influenced. The key to optimal health, therefore, is to keep our DNA clean and healthy and manufacturing “clean” copies. We do this by helping our bodies neutralise excess free radicals, and at the same time, strengthen and nourish our cells and their DNA.

What will AC-11 do for me if I take it regularly?

The major attribute of AC-11 relates to its effect on DNA repair, so it is going to be helpful in many of the same situations as antioxidants. It’s also be seen as temporary and immune augmenting, so possible uses include : Anti-ageing programs immunity mechanism support (e.g. Frequent colds/infections ) Inflammatory conditions. Auto-immune conditions, which often involve the immunity mechanism and have an inflammatory part,eg rheumatoid arthritis, colitis and so on. Family history of age related illness Skin health Recovery from injury and enhancing healing Those who only know one or two facts about Reverse Ageing can be puzzled by misleading info. The simplest way to help folks who are misled is to delicately correct them with the truths you are learning here.

Are Noni Juice Benefits Worthy Of Mention?

1 November, 2009 (05:08) | Nutrition | By: Verity Ferris

Many different people have been claiming for the past twenty years that there are literally hundreds of Noni Juice benefits. Sorting fact from reality in these cases can be a bit difficult, as can be deciding if a benefit might actually help you. Moreover, it can be hard to see which benefits are being claimed by the various types of Noni Juices, from Hawaiian to Polynesian to the Tahiti variety and which are simply being claimed by Noni Juice in its most basic form.

Noni juice has many benefits that may help you feel better and live longer. Just be advised that these claims have not been evaluated by the FDA but have been studied by independent doctors.

The noni fruit has a reputation for not being very tasty but the recommended dosage to start is 1oz and you can go up from there, it is recommended to do this slowly. If you don’t like the taste of the juice you could mix it with orange juice or whatever fruit juice you like the best. You might even want to mix it with a fruit smoothie.

Recent research suggests that noni root compounds contain natural sedative properties and may lower blood pressure. Biochemist, Dr Ralph Heinicke, asserts that proxeronine, an alkaloid precursor to a vital compound called xeronine, helps in the normalization of abnormally functioning cells. Heinicke claims that noni juice provides a safe and effective way to increase xeronine levels, which can be decreased by anger, stress, trauma, disease and injury.

Now, these compounds all have benefits, they all exist in other food products. The specific Noni juice benefits come from the fact that you get them in one dose with fewer calories.

Are There any actual noni juice health benefits? Ofcourse, here are just a few:

Digestive tract- Aiding the digestive tract noni helps effectively breaks down enzymes so that the body absorbs nutrients more thoroughly. For your body to use the nutrients and energy from your food, it needs to digest the food properly and thoroughly.

Circulatory and cardiovascular systems- Noni has scopoletin this has been shown to lower blood pressure; noni also helps the body to produce nitric oxide. Nitric oxide when made in the body helps to relax and expand blood vessels this helps to relieve stress on the arteries and heart.

Depression- Morinda contains antidepressant compounds in the form of two sugars, inulin and nystose, as well as succinic acid, a compound created from simple sugars. Morinda also contains xeronine, which brings about a feeling of well-being by opening brain receptor sites to receive more endorphin hormone.

In the end, Noni juice’s benefits are substantial, and it’s a good supplement. It’s worth adding to your diet, but it’s not an excuse to avoid your doctor, nor is it something you should over consume. It’s not the secret of eternal youth; it’s just a good dietary supplement, and given its benefits, that’s enough.

If you would like to experience the nonijuice, then it is time you clicked on the link to find more information on how to find the best noni juice in the world, at the best price! There are many noni juice benefits to be had, but you really need to experience them for yourself.

The Composition of “First Milk” Bovine Colostrum

17 October, 2009 (05:20) | Nutrition | By: Dr. Anthony Kleinsmith

IMAGE

From the chart above, it is very obvious how fast the relationship of the biologically active components in bovine colostrum changes after birth of the calf. Recognizing this changing relationship is extremely important in defining what bovine colostrum really is and in assuring that it contains the maximum amount of biologically active substances.

Protein

Most of the biologically active substances in complete bovine colostrum that can convey significant health benefits are proteins. Since almost all of the beneficial proteins are conveyed from the mother’s bloodstream into the colostrum before birth and the mother then begins to reabsorb them about 6-8 hours after birth, it is important to use colostrum that has been collected during a time period that will minimize the effect of the reabsorption process. Of real significance is the fact that by 24 hours after birth most of the proteins in the udder fluid can be accounted for by two individual proteins that are primarily only of nutritional value, casein and albumin.

Colostral Fat

Some people and companies believe that the milk fat in bovine colostrum either does not have any purpose or can deteriorate the product quicker. One such company takes the fat out of their product but adds a different fat component back into their product. Their claim is their ?colostrum? is more digestible. True bovine colostrum helps in digestion. The protein, casein, found in bovine colostrum, breaks down in the stomach into amino acids and peptides which are absorbed then used to create new muscle in the stomach. If the milk fat is removed from the colostrum, not only are you losing some important biologically active substances, but you are losing the benefits of the casein protein.

High quality first milking bovine colostrum will contain 20-30% milk fat.2 The milk fat in colostrum is also a very important means to deliver some of its beneficial biologically active substances.1,3 Dissolved in or associated with the fat in colostrum are vitamins A, D, E and K; steroid hormones; corticosteroids; some growth factors; and insulin.

Lactose (Milk Sugar)

Bovine colostrum contains 10-15% lactose. When lactose is broken down in the saliva and the stomach of the calf, it creates an immediate metabolic energy source for the calf. The mother’s milk increases in its lactose content as the calf develops. 6 hours after the birth of the calf the lactose content is half of the lactose content 12 hours after birth and a third of the lactose content 24 hours after birth.

Humans also have the lactase enzyme in their stomach and in their saliva. So when the enzyme is broken down it also gives humans an immediate metabolic energy. Some people are lactose intolerant due to their bodies producing none or very little of the lactase enzyme. Most of these individuals need not worry about using colostrum as a dietary supplement.
